sock sorting

professional services to keep track of socks

This service, offered at an hourly rate would provide sock sorting services for the laundry-impaired at $25.00/hr. It's a two-fold service. The actual business would provide the service, but the ad in the newspaper would inadvertently serve as a community service. Someone would see that people get paid $25.00/hr for sorting socks and realize that for that much, they could do it themselves and the job would then get done.

animal hair + clone = dispense with socks altogether http://bunnyrabbit....r/bunnyslippers.jpg

I will pay USD $30 an hour for someone to hunt down, identify and terminate with extreme prejudice the individual, group, life form or malign acorporeal entity that steals just one good sock from each pair I own, leaving only a motley colection of single socks with holes in them.

I know this is happening. I just want the proof.

       Fine. Easy payment terms ?

What about a 30% commission to the sock sorting corporation for subcontracting these additional services?!

That's good money. For 25 bucks an hour I'd even do the underwear. Why did I get my engineering degree again?
RayfordSteele, Dec 11 2002

Given that there are some that would do the underwear for free, I'm thinking you'll make LESS with underwear included rather than more.

Couldn't this have been posted with "sock sorting" replaced with any other random small chore? I'm not sure I get the point here.
egnor, Dec 11 2002

I dig the random sock effect myself- people rarely look at your socks anyway- it's nice to know, as you strut down the street, that you've got two vastly different socks on- subdued revolution- it's the same reason men wear women's underwear beneath their business suits... or so I've been told...
ASLAN, Dec 12 2002

Some random small chores are less random than others. However: Aslan, you have inspired me and after a weekend of embracing the thrill of my idea being read on the web, I will humbly withdraw.

What exatly have I inspired here? The random sock experience or the women's underwear?
ASLAN, Dec 12 2002

Random socks are the inspiration but I've realized why that's not an option for me. Tall women with long legs can never find pants long enough to hide socks. I'm not sure I'm ready to be so revolutionary as to flaunt my unmatched socks.

Asda's George do sets of black socks which are indistinguishable from the ankle up but the heel and toe panels are coloured. They make sock sorting a doddle! Since they're the same company, Wal-Mart may stock them too.

[8th], I thought everyone knew that socks were the larval stage of a higher life form, and that at some as yet undetermined trigger the alpha sock will metamorphose into a coat hanger, leaving the weaker partner to a pathetic, lonely obscurity.
egbert, Dec 14 2002

7/8, I found one of your socks. At least I think it was yours - I mean, it *was* wrapped around a cat...
thumbwax, Dec 14 2002

egbert- I believe that you are on to something. The breeding ground for socks in their larval stage is under the bed. I think they survive on cat hair. That would explain how all those hangers mysteriously got there. Perhaps there is a market for a device that will keep them caged under the bed lest they escape.
blts, Dec 14 2002

Socks breed during the larval stage? Well that is unusual.

A device to keep them out from under the bed would be more use, so they cannot enter the pupa stage and therefore remain as socks.

And..er...[8th] its taken approx ten years of part time study to identify this phenomenon so that's...let me see..say ten hours a week...less holidays..oh, let's round it down to $150,000 since it's you.
egbert, Dec 14 2002

what if we could use the wire from the hangers and shape it into a sock form and let the cat hair, dust and whatever breed around this form and have a constant resource of soft hairy socks that would match the color of our cats. Cat hair and dust balls now become a national resource for a much in demand product. Just think of what other materials might be out there to be used in this process. Dog hair, belly button lint, OH - the list will go on and on. Soon we may have developed a natural energy source beyond all or needs.

re: larval socks breeding- they're quite precocious. Perhaps if I were more biologically informed I could keep track of my socks. Therein lies the problem. And everyone always asked "why do I need to know this?" in biology class-ha! I've learned the answer.

re: world abstinence day... now that made for a big laugh in the silence of my home. My only concern would be the 12-step programs that might come out of such recognition.

       Name of company?

       Socitomesocitome
blts, Dec 15 2002

Socittome socittome... aren't those Aretha Franklin lines? From R.E.S.P.E.C.T- which leads to this question: what does she mean when she sings "R-E-S-P-E-C-T take away the T-C-P...?" Doesn't that leave RESE?
