Bagtar
or perhaps Git-Pipes

Music these days sucks, no point denying it. A revolution is forthcoming, behold the Git-Pipes!

The Electric Guitar finally combined with the Highland Bagpipe! I envision the product thusly: The bag is affixed to the back of the guitar, and the chanter aligned with the fretboard so that the notes can be altered simulntaneously. The drone-pipes and mouthpiece would be operated normally.

"By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes, Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomon'. where me and my true love were ever wont to gae On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomon'.

O ye'll tak' the high road and I'll tak' the low road, An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye; But me and my true love will never meet again On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomon'..."

note: the terminology used for instrument parts imparts no gurantee of accuracy.

note: Git-Pipes are derived from the popular slang form of guitar: Git-Box

So you’re supposed to finger the chanter and fret the strings with one hand, while strumming the strings and squeezing the bag with the opposite arm? Would one person playing both instruments really sound better than one person playing guitar while another person plays the bagpipes?

AO, Mar 25 2004

       yes

whatastrangeperson, Mar 25 2004

In what why do expect better music to result from one person playing these two instruments simultaneously?

AO, Mar 25 2004

I'm skeptical of any musical instrument that was initially intended to be a weapon...

       You should see MY axe!

Scottish band Big Country had guitars that sounded like bagpipes. Is that good enough?

kropotkin, Mar 26 2004

[kropotkin] -no that is not good enough. [zigness] -what the hell are you talking about?

whatastrangeperson, Mar 26 2004

       What [krop] said.

I'd be interested in a bagpipe filtered through some distortion, but it doesn't really need it.
