Cheetahs
If we're gonna race animals...

Why not go for the fastest? As cheetahs are the fastest animal on land, they would be great fun to watch at the races. They are trainable, and the ancient Egyptians used them in hunting. This practice continued in Abyssinia into the 1930's.

I imagine that the track would be much like a greyhound track, only faster. That electric rabbit would need a little suping up. A portion of the profits could go towards cheetah conservation programs.

The problem is that the race would be over too quickly to attract any attention. Cheetahs don't have a lot of stamina, they're purely sprinters. They go *very* fast for a very short distance, then they get winded and have to rest.

Maybe not the ones being raced, which have been trained, but the profits that [Xenophile] speaks of could indeed fund impressive conservation programs, resulting in a greater wild population of cheetahs. Possibly, other endangered species could also be raced, which would in turn, given time, result in a greater wild population of that species. [+]

To some extent, this was baked in the book/movie "The Swiss Family Robinson", only they were riding the exotic animals in the race. Let's see, there was a zebra, an ostrich... I think an elephant, too.

I'm Twisted. :You can't really make a Cat do anything, can you? (I submit to the Abysisinian ref, though I've ne're heard of it.)
It's one way to assure the Cheetah's survival, though --- 4 on biggie (cat speak - corey)?.

Cheetahs is a no alcohol served, nude strip club in San Diego. I think these girls are sprinters as well.

I nearly missed this but I spotted it in time.

Even He-Man needed magic powers to manage that.

No, I don't have a cat. My sister has a cat. My mother has a cat. My fiance has had three cats at one time or another. As for making a cat do something... Well you don't have to MAKE a cheetah chase stuff. They do that naturally. The objection that the race would be over quickly gives me pause, but then drag racing isn't exactly an all-day event. Maybe they could have a half-dozen cheetah races, if one doesn't last long enough.

Xenophile, Dec 26 2006

They could chase the now obsolete greyhounds?

"They could chase the now obsolete greyhounds?"

heh heh Now there's an idea.

       Cheetahs are overrated.

theleopard, Sep 16 2007

They do go fast, but they get your fingers all orange, and ... oh, sorry, I thought we were talking about cheetohs.

bnip, Sep 16 2007

Just chuck an antelope in there, sit back and watch nature in all its g(l)ory.
