Beneath the soles of footwear resides rectangular wooden blocks with inward-facing grooves (towards the shoe that fits on the other foot). The ‘grooves’ (‘slots’) are curved resembling smiley faces that abruptly drop vertically at the front and back.

At the center of the blocks are universal joints connecting the blocks / shoes / feet / legs via a telescopic pole.

Leg movements are restricted by slot width. The only way to take a step is to put one foot in front of the other.

       A pic for y’all. Admittedly this is difficult to explain with words alone. The angled view displays the sole attachments. - Both feet are on the ground in this view. <link> Now that I look at it [k_sra], it looks more like a kayak oar than the air-cast it is based on.   

       [RayfordSteele], so close I’d have to say you are correct.   

       [2 Fries], dismount = jumping with a twist or semi-flipping in this scenario., like a ‘bunny-hop’ or a ‘teensy-cart’... Or just take your shoes off.
