Rat's Milk Cheese is just what it sounds like. Made in the centuries-old tradition of swiss and dutch cheesemakers, dozens of rats are milked to supply the dairy product for this tangy, slightly soft delicacy.
I wouldn't expect this to appeal to the normal consumer. It would be better suited for clientel who like to try things out of the ordinary. It also would double as a great gag (literally) item for practical jokers.
Imagine, getting revenge on that fraternity jerk of a college roomate by offering him a piece of pizza or a grilled cheese sandwich made with Rat's Milk Cheese!!
Only when he's halfway through would you nonchalantly place the package near him so he can read it. Just wait until you see the look on his face!!
Rat's milk cheese tastes most like white cheddar, but has its own personality unique to rodents. Mild yet tangy, firm, but soft enough to slice and spread.
Mmmm...mmm...mmmm....nothing like Rat's Milk Cheese.

Considering the number of rats you'd have to milk to get a pizzaful of cheese I'm thinking that would be an expensive prank.

But I'd probably be wiling to try rat's-milk cheese. Assuming they're clean rats and not random sewer denizens.

Now this is an idea whose time has come. Don't get discouraged, rcornell. If there's such a thing a Goat's Head Soup, then Rat's Milk Cheese can't be far off. For.

Eating rats is more of a belgium thing.

Scientific lab suppliers carry rat milk (for raising germ free lab rats). So if anyone wants to go commercial...
pfperry, Jul 10 2002

but if i ate that, i'd be like canibilism.

This sounds a lot like an episode of "The Simpsons" in which the school is serving rat's milk to save money.
brownbear, Nov 18 2002

well it sounds cool but if people like drank cartons of 600ml rat milk it would take dozens of overworked rats. which could get the authorities in for animal abuse or something. if there was a quick, easy and painless way to get it though i would like to try it. have u got any handy?

I would call uppon the cheese producing industry to try and pursue the idea of "other animal" milk and cheese production. Some ideas: Whale milk (shold be used for large cheese) Platypuss milk (extremely expensive, rare etc...) Giraffe milk (excellent for long drinks) Skunk milk (only for connosseurs) Prarie dog milk (for cute and cudly "mini bell" type cheese) Vombat milk (WTF) Cheetah milk (for cheese that gives you the runs - fast) Warthog milk (for really disfigured cheese)

       The opportunities are endless

this is a little off topic, but does anyone know what head cheese is? we had it at a recent Xmas party, and it was horrible.
HAK, Dec 24 2005

Uh... I'm sorry [HAK], but I Googled for a definition and this is what I got:

"Not a cheese at all, but a sausage made from the meaty bits of the head of a calf or pig (sometimes a sheep or cow) that are seasoned, combined with a gelatinous meat broth and cooked in a mold. When cool, the sausage is unmolded and thinly sliced. It`s usually eaten at room temperature."

You really shouldn't have eaten any of it. It's probably taken 10 or so years off your lifespan.

I figure that if everyone started eating rats, world hunger would be ended in short order.
MikeOxbig, Dec 26 2005

Yeah, but then rats will become an endangered species, and you really don't want that!
Honduras, Dec 27 2005

Why not [Honduras]? It'll kill two birds with one stone. Or two rats.
MikeOxbig, Dec 28 2005

How about human breast milk? It would still gross people out yet it would actually be good for them.
Jscotty, Dec 28 2005

I had a nice laugh picturing the tiny milking pail and stool one would have to use when milking a rat. How much would I get paid as rat wrangler? Should I quit my day job?
Canuck, Dec 29 2005

I never understood the idea of rats meat being disgusting. It's an animal after all, with an immune system. Cook it and it's just fine, all microbes destroyed. Rats milk? I'm not sure I would buy it but it doesn't seem too disgusting.

I've heard the argument hat human breast milk should be marketed and cow milk discarded. I don't know why this idea keeps surfacing, no diseases can pass from cows to humans (except cow pox, even then it wouldn't kill you, wasn't it wiped out?) which is why we drink cow milk. [Honduras] why would head cheese have taken 10 years from the lifespan of HAK? Also, why would we not want rats to be an endangered species?
