It could be a library card for some bogus
library or gym membership or a
supersaver card for some hole in the wall
store. Whatever the case, it doesn't look
like your ATM card. Many places
strangers
can use your ATM card for products, with
just a signature or no form of ID.
Advanced
models will be made of mylar
but have the paperboard feel so they can
mimic expired movie tickets and
business
cards, both of which can camouflage
magnetic strips.

Damn! No-one here would bother stealing an ATM card unless they had your PIN. They're pretty useless without it. All EFTPOS transactions are live electronic calls to a central bank processing point, with valid PIN access. |

I would guess that EFTPOS terminal uptake here would be around 98%+ of retail outlets. The others take credit cards. |

The UK is just starting to replace the signature system with the PIN system due to the ease of forging signatures and the fact that the sixteen year old working in Tesco's never checks the signature anyway. |

Around here all ATM cards come with a Visa/Mastercard logo, which allow them to act just like credit cards except without the protection features. |

Here in USA, I can use my card without any PIN, sidnature, and usually without an ID check. It is becoming common in fast food places. |

They're called debit cards and they can spell financial ruin and they work in Australia, too. I know, my daughter spent this summer there with a youth animal research team and used a debit card all over Queensland, Alice Springs and Sydney. No PIN needed. |
