this freezer will be almost like an ordinary freezer on the outside, but insteat of coils...why not use the whole fridge as a coil? the wall structure would be similar to cardboard ( the large empty spaces in it... look at the edge) so that freeon could expand in that chamber (not in the actual fridge part where you put food ! I am not quite that stupid.) . of course metal will be used and the whole thing insulated, but the temperatures on the inside could be far colder than any conventional refridgerator...

Annotation:

Not quite seeing why it would be "far colder than any conventional refridgerator" - that's going to depend on the quality of your pump and the nature of freon, surely? (Btw, you realise that you can't use freon any more, right?)

// why not use the whole fridge as a coil? //

Because you want to separate the heat from the fridge. If the fridge body is the coil, what keeps the heat away from the inside? Sure, it's insulated. But fridges are insulated anyway, and they still warm up. Because of the latest government specs on energy usage, if there were better insulation out there, then they would be using it. Having some problems at figuring out how to meet them without cutting down on usable space, they are. Having just interviewed at Fridgedaire, I got to learn all this stuff and see the whole manufacturing process.

BTW, if you have an old fridge, say older than 10 years or so, I'd recommend buying a new one. The new ones have behavioral learning programming that learns your daily habits of fridge usage so as not to consume nearly so much energy. Substantial portion of your energy bill, it is.

wow, you can't use freeon? whoa... oh well then.....i'm sure you could find something else....the freezer is supposed to be a meat freezer, I have no problems with our refridgerators either... but this was speciffically labeled "INDUSTRIAL freezer"

//cardboard ( the large empty spaces in it... look at the edge)//= Corrugated
sergeant dukie, *shirley* you can forgive a reader for not taking the //industrial// aspect too literally, given that great many an idea title is actually mistitled, *and*
the opening //this freezer will be almost like an ordinary freezer on the outside//
and closing //could be far colder than any conventional refridgerator//
sentences of the idea may lead a reader to believe the application is actually *for* a regular refrigerator/freezer

That gig's still up in the air. So I might get it. But quite honestly, I don't really want it that badly. Horrid job and a horrid plant. (100 years old).

//and is one of the quickest available ways to cool something rapidly to very low temperatures, short of dipping it in a liquid gas, like nitrogen.//
Which, as we all know, is fun to do at parties, but isn't practical for most rapid-cooling needs.

Fun if you want to show how butyl rubber pipe shatters like glass after it's been cooled to -176 C in LN2. Not fun if you're a witless clown who makes an ice lolly by dipping a paper cup of orange juice in a dewar of same, then waiting a minute and licking the resulting smoking block of "ice" ...... serious burns to the tongue, a trip to the ER, several days off work, and a written warning for misconduct (Not me by the way, I was just on the disciplinary panel).

[8th] on a disciplinary panel just does not bear thinking about.

//Fun if you want to show how butyl rubber pipe shatters like glass after it's been cooled to -176 C in LN2. Not fun if...//
Of course, I was alluding to the former. The latter is just... disturbing, if understandable given how stupidly some people act at parties.
