Not sure if it's a baked idea, but what about making an old dutch type wind mill and cover the windmill blades and the windmill with solar cells?

I'm pretty sure this has been half-baked before. People concluded that the requirements for efficient windmills are too different from those for solar panels.

A quick search under solar + windmill, and we have the culprit. (link) It got 5 croissants first time round.

[Edit] Are you new to the half-bakery, [Pikey]? It's always a good idea to run a search before you post - once on Google, and once on the Halfbakery's own search system, (on the top left of the screen, just below the croissant). Otherwise you might fall foul of a waugsqueke.
