A company certificate which ensures that "minor" spareparts are available in 3D database.

Often parts of products like battery container cover get lost or broken and there are no spareparts available anywhere. Companies should pledge to offer 3D models of such items in the most common formats.

Certificate is good idea [+]. But the concept is baked in the form of open source hardware.

As 3D scanners become more common, some of this need will be met communally - just ask someone with the same item to scan it and send you the file.

I think that there is a database of 3D sparepart models. It is upkeeped by hobbyists. http://www.yeggi.com/
