Here come the Men in Black...
The Old Order Defenders
Here come the Men in Black...
They want some new church members
Right on, right on
The good guys dress in black remember that
Just in case we ever face to face and make contact
The title held by me...M.I.B.
Means
what you think you saw, you did not see
So don't blink
Think what was there but now's gone
Wool suit with the black suspenders on
Walk in shadow move in silence
Guard against technological dominance
But though we ain't in no telephone list
We straight don't exist
No cars and no electricity
Saw something called a phone jack, watch your back
Cause you never quite know where the M.I.B.'s is at
Here come the Men in Black...
The Old Order Defenders
Here come the Men in Black...
They want some new church members...

One benefit would be that secrets committed to paper are more secure as long as they have the means to detect electronic bugs and similar devices. I suppose that a thorough low-tech intelligence service could just about work. |

Asymmetric warfare again. You have an arsenal of sophisticated weapons which are designed to fight other sophisticated weapons .... people in loincloths with pointed sticks do not show up on radar. But importantly, the Amish would probably have a great asset. They would grasp the importance of keeping secrets, rather than broadcasting them to the world. If they don't actually use cellphones, faxes, email and the rest, your trillion dollar surveillance system is just a big electricity bill and nothing else.
Plus there's nothing quite so terrifying as a group of people who absolutely know they're in the right ... |

somewhere there is a very confused college sophomore trying to do research on Anabaptists for a summer religion class....and the search engines keep sending them to the 1/2 B..... |

The Amish use cellphones, albeit in a limited fashion. Google for 'amish cellphones' and go for the first link - a Wired article by Howard Rheingold. |

we hear they have the wheel... |

That was a great search [Party Animal], I posted the link up for everyone else to read, pretty good. Yay! We raised the page rank of that page by linking to it! God save Google! |

Not sure about the shades though, - a bit too ostentatious and frivolous. Unbecoming for a
true Amish. |
