Auto-Boner Repellent

Spray on repellent to keep compulsive downvoters at bay

Plagued by instant down-votes? Suspect you're being reflexively boned without a fair shake or decent read through?

No problem. Get yourself a first-rate bottle of auto-boner repellent and douse up. Your inventions will glide on through the recent page without a compulsive down-voter in sight.

Starting to pick up a couple suspicious bones? Spray some touch up on there.

Disclaimers: Will not repel legitimate bones. May have unpredictable consequences if applied while also engaging in auto-boning.

Context: annotations in [T-72 Buckaroo]

Edit to clarify: This is not directed against anyone, nor is it an attack nor sarcasm. It is a fanciful riff idea on a phrase used by [xenzag] which I thought was amusing.

Easier solution: just stay away and stop posting any new ideas here. (bone not mine)
xenzag, Nov 27 2022

I'm going to assume those bones are humorous and ironic.

[-] Mine was just for product testing. [pukesick]’s apparently doesn’t work as well as Rentisham’s “Bone Me Not.”

I tried that "bone-me-not" product. It turned me into a jellyfish.

And here I thought this would be a picture of England.

I put a bone on my own post for good measure. Hope that's allowed.
pukesick, Nov 27 2022

It is allowed, but it is strongly advised against. There are ... certain ... things? ... which are strangely attracted to self-administered bones. They don't come at once, but once they start, they cannot be stopped.

       Not an actual idea [-]

// Not an actual idea //

True. It's a sarcasm directed against crybabies (at least one in particular, maybe others) who act like a bone is a mortal insult.

"It's better than a slap in the belly with a wet fish."
a1, Nov 28 2022

I think this place works best when the sarcasm is directed against ideas not the poster. It always sucks opening an idea and seeing two people boning each other for some reason.
mylodon, Nov 28 2022

Really, get a room you two!

Not sure if it's only a US expression, but all autoboners should know "boning" is a slang expression for having sex. So if you say "I don't like you! I'm going to bone you!" and the person snickers you'll know why.

And I'm not sure if "boning each other", at least at the same time, is even physically possible.

But very nice sentiment M, I agree that people should try to be nice. I also agree that I should be given a billion dollars, but probably not gonna happen.

       // bone //

I didn't coin the HB-specific usage. I usually say [+] or [-] unless referring to someone else's comment about these votes.
a1, Nov 28 2022

It isn't that people need to be nice, but personal attacks are often not interesting, and are a black hole that warps viewers to something unrelated to the idea.

If people attacked each other in interesting ways - especially in verse - maybe I would change my mind.

       Agreed.

But I will say, I think we've gone a record time without anybody here calling somebody else Hitler. (see link) Used to be a daily occurrence.
