Since TV programmes almost all have subtitles in the programme's original language, and software to translate among most popular languages already exists, shouldn't these technologies be put together?
Real time sub-titles into any popular languages... I submit. (^_^)

There was a web site (gone now) that showed movie stills from a pirate copy of "The Lord of The Rings", with its "Engrish" subtitles. Translated very loosely from the Japanese version, the fractured English was hilarious. |

Translating from Japanese to English is a particular challenge, because it seems difficult to teach a machine the pronouns which Japanese assumes... especially as to make good sense, it's going to have to watch the movie itself. Still, maybe its day will come. |
