Going round corners might be a problem. |

Apparently bicycles with a track in back and a ski (or skiis) in front have been proposed for snow travel--patented in Canada but I don't know if they were ever manufactured. *tries to imagine prehensile wheels, sees vision of toroidal squid* |

The Iditabike snow race has inspired the production of extra wide rims and tyres that actually work. Originally, people glued 2 rims together, but now they are extruded in extra wide form.
Bike are steered by balancing and balanced by steering. Without quick steering of the front wheel, you fall over. |

Dramatically wider tires, lower gearing might be an easier solution. See http://www.burrobikes.com/ for a concept in this direction. |
