Flush Toaster

make toast but stay cool and minimal

Toasters take up a lot of room in an otherwise minimalist kitchen, but not Flush Toaster.

All you see of its presence are the one, two or even three narrow slots cut discretely into your granite work top. The actual toaster is slotted in underneath and concealed behind a panel. It can be pulled out like a drawer for access when needed (for maintenance etc)

Not quite what you're suggesting http://kitchen.spri...duct=1173&id_lang=1

Ah! "flush" as in "not standing proud".
I thought for a moment this was a toaster that was going to cut-out the middleman.

S'gonna need a complex air-blast system to keep out liquid spills and dropped knives.

If it can be pulled out like a drawer, why spoil the nice clean look of your granite countertop with slots? Just design the drawer to pivot out from the bottom, and drop your toast in.

I go onto the Beatport site for that. "PoP"

That is indeed a small picture [hippo], but it is not truly “flush”. I like the slots cut into the granite worktop. I also think that there should be two matching granite plugs ground to a precise fit that swing up from beneath when the toaster is not in use. That would solve the spills & knives problem.

Actually I was expecting a toaster that used a long chain hanging from a lever to eject the toast.

       That would The Shanks Toaster.

What happens when the toaster dies, and you can't find a replacement that matches the slots in your granite worktop?

I think a better solution would be a horizontal toaster, with a tray-loading mechanism. Such a toaster could have other things placed on top of it, if it were suitably insulated.

A variant of what Maxwell Buchanan suggested is a toaster mounted flush in the wall.

Even more intruiging would be a toaster mounted flush in the ceiling. No problem with crumbs accumulating; no spring needed to launch the toast onto your plate.

//What happens when the toaster dies...// Crumbs! Answer - Long life toasters that comply with international Toaster Slot Width Standardisation Agreement (sometimes known as Dualit Protocol).

What about if it had rollers fitted each side that buttered the toast by rolling the bread as it came out. These would then slide down after use and be covered by a small panel each side. This removes the need for a butter knife dedicated to toast.

Add me to the ranks of those who misinterpreted the title. I can think of a number of countertop appliances that could be installed flush with the counter, improving both the form and function of the kitchen. [+]

Love toast, hate crumbs... great idea.
Phrontistery, Jun 16 2012

I can't believe this hasn't been done yet. People pay so much for perfectly smooth ceramic ranges now but still have ugly toasters taking up counter space? However I bet this would be easy to DIY.
