Gamete Rider

Normal motile vaginal flora like corynebacterium or streptococcus attaches to sperm then at fertilization tests one cyte from the blastocyst to block or permit development; thus get pregnant with anyone have happy clever kids

a vaginal flora bacteria like Corynebacteria or streptococcus attaches to sperm then after the swimming gamete activates the egg the gamete rider bacteria attaches to one cyte of the developing multicyte blastocyst if the engineered Corynebacteria or Streptococcus detects particular genes it makes proteins that end the blastocyst

Notably IVF scientists now take a single cyte from a blastocyst to do genetic studies like karyotyping absent harm to a future fetus; that is how they know which preembryos to choose; the CORYNEBACTERIA or Streptococcus just samples one cyte of the blastocyst using a complementary to target dna strand adjacent to a promotor sequence plus diffusive apoptosis chemical gene; if the adjacent promotor strand is activated it terminates the blastocyst

developing a sampling bacteria basically goes with the modified bacteria eating one cyte from the blastocyst, detecting a gene fragment, then producing a block or continue response

A huge benefit of this are things like targeting the s type of the 5-HTTLPR gene because if children are conceived with the long version of the gene they are about half as anxious, half as obsessive, generally a third less neurotic, generally slightly more trusting, plus more directed towards their own values

Also the genes CHRM2 the DHA lipid production pathway known as Sprecher's shunt, IGF2R cumulatively give 34 points of higher IQ [link] Thus if China, India, or the United States wanted to create much more capable yet happier mild mannered people they could do this with a common vaginal flora basically if a person has unplanned children but the gamete rider bacteria is present they have wonderful capable easy to raise children anyway A person could choose from a variety of gamete rider bacteria to particularize which gametes they got from a planned pregnancy as well it just doubles or quadruples the time to conceive from 4 months among unplanned teenage pregnancies (published) to a year n a half or two to four years if a person is nearer thirty

Its practically half a college education from a bacteria

DHA at breastfeeding gives ten points higher IQ; paper cites chemical effect as well as 1.08 iq points per month of breastfeeding 10 month measure gives 10 points http://www.ncbi.nlm...nel.Pubmed_RVDocSum

Replace men with amoebas is currently Yahoos premier group addressing the replacement of men with amoebas. Join now! http://groups.yahoo...lacemenwithamoebas/
sprinkle a plant with amoeba water then transfer it to your vagina to become pregnant Numerous books have been written about entirely female societies, at Replace men with amoebas we seek to transfer a few hundred carefully chosen as well as created human genomes to the amoeba. A woman, or two women desiring to have children just transfer these amoebas to their vaginas while steering the choice of ameobic human genome with an herbal tincture. If Noahette were here, she'd approve. [beanangel, Jun 02 2010]

I think I can name that baker in three words Mr. Dewitt.

       Interesting...once decyphered.

interesting, not sure if I'm gonna plus it 'cuz I'm still thinking about what you could do with "motile vaginal flora", post aside.

This idea is not clever. ironic, no?

Interesting that the idea's author was immediately apparent after just those first few words.

       (Sp. "bacterium")

//the gamete rider bacteria attaches to one cyte of the developing multicyte blastocyst if the engineered Corynebacteria or Streptococcus detects particular genes it makes proteins that end the blastocyst//

There will be quite a lot of distance, cell walls, cytoplasm, etc in between your bacterium and the blastocyst's genome. The developing organism's cells have evolved the ability to defend their sensitive innards against invading bacteria, and they won't let your gamete rider just go traipsing in there without putting up a fight.

Unless it //could go with a customized bacterial restriction enzyme site to produce a bacteria makes flu virus babble babble babble//, of course.

(Edit: it's a truism that any post pointing out someone else's spelling mistakes must without fail contain a corresponding mistake of its own; but for said secondary mistake to remain unchallenged for over six hours is a rarity indeed.)

If this were possible AND desireable, a version of it would have appeared in nature due to mutations and been passed on in families that it benifitted.

[JN] If this were possible AND desireable, a version of it would have appeared in nature due to mutations and been passed on in families that it benifitted

       Like mitochondria!

Note: Lynn Margulis speculated then proved mitochondria were once separate organisms

On a different note Woody Guthrie has a disease caused from variable multiple repeats on a chromosome known as huntingtons; huntingtons causes drifter attributes plus hypersexuality "Woody" had between 7 to 9 children

If Huntington's just had the sense to make people live longer absent disease itd be impressive

The title threw me, but then by the time I'd read "Normal motile vaginal flora..", I knew it was Beany.

OK, my first impression is that this is slightly bollocks. But...

If I understand correctly, the general idea (absent the random discussions of one out of a thousand simple and common inherited mutations) is that you engineer a bacterium to somehow detect a particular mutant allele in one cell of the blastocyst and then kill it if it has a dud allele, yes?

OK, my first impression is wrong. This is completely bollocks, for the following reasons and more:

       1) Bacteria don't do that sort of thing naturally, and there's no aanalogous bacterial activity that can be engineered to achieve this in any way that we know of.

       2) How do you get the bacterium to sample just one cell of the blastocyst?

       3) Most common inherited disorders are recessive (that's why they're common as carriers). How does the bacterium distinguish between a carrier (OK) and a homozygous mutant (affected)?

       4) If you have to use a specially engineered bacterium for each potential faulty allele (as you would), then you already must know that one or both parents are carriers. In this case, it's way, way easier to do IVF with blasts screened in the usual way; or to do early prenatal testing and abort, if the parents are OK with that.

       5) For reasons 5-999, please learn a little real science.

[Beany], you could streamline a percentage of your idea generation by grouping all of these under one title: "I'm not sure how, but we could use a virus or bacterium to change genes and make people happy, smart and long lived". You've posted that, plus a thousand words of smokescreening, countless times.

The JCVI artificial mycobacteria with the completely artificial nucleus could hop onto a motile bacterium that passes the zona to fertilize a human egg Unlike sperm it could live months or years prior to fertilization possibly even reproducing as a mycobacterium It could even contain multiple genomes which the woman could choose between if she placed a herb or chemical at her vagina

mycobacterium live inside other cytes which makes nuclear genetic screening possible from the interior of a dividing multicyte blastocyst
