Maybe the baseball would pulsate between small and huge so the pitcher would have to time it so it's small when he throws it. Yea, that might be a thing. Or the soccer player needs to wait till it gets big to kick it.

It'd be covered with an expandable rubber coating so it wouldn't be all gridy.
