Jungle Room
Made practical by negative air pressure and a few other tricks to keep bugs and other wildlife out of your living room. | |
Just as it sounds, one wall of your living room has a massive hole it leading to a densely planted jungle. Now terrarium rooms are already a thing, but they're typically sealed off with glass so you don't have the crawly wildlife permeating your living room. The idea here is to have the two areas adjacent
to each other but made practical by positive overpressure in the living room causing airflow from the dry, comfortable living room to the appropriately humidified jungle.
The way the air wall would work is that the dry air from the living room would be sucked into a neutral zone of sorts with both outlets and returns and be blown in a continuous vortex, dehumidifiers added as necessary to keep the living room side of the airwall comfortable. Any bleed through from the dry room side would be conditioned as necessary.
The room itself is a greenhouse, complete with the heat and humidity needed to keep the jungle flora and fauna happy. The enclosing glass would be green to add to the effect. (see link)
You could have colorful birds, even furry critters happily living there because there would be other impediments to them leaving the jungle room and getting into the rest of the house, some of them being active such as air walls, water sprayers, sonic repellents etc.
Of course, sliding glass window could be shut to save energy, but when you feel like relaxing next to a jungle just open them up and turn on the airflow and other system wildlife / atmosphere separation systems. I'd populate it with noisy jungle creatures to get the full effect when you wanted kick back on the couch to chill.
To be clear, this isn't just a room with plants, it's exactly what's in the picture and the idea is an air and other device containment system to keep the two climate zones separate.
(See link.)
This only for reals.

I'm gonna add, there's a nice loud babbling brook running through this, the sound of which would cover up some of the airflow noise. |
|
|
Maybe even a waterfall. Have the waterfall form the separation? Ehh, maybe. |

|
Naa. Never mind, you've got to really be sitting next to that jungle with nothing perceivable between you and it. |

[Doc] I looked at the link and there is some subtle stuff going on there. I think if I had that image on my wall I would turn the sofa to look away from it as well. |

About your idea, better to ignore the climate control thing and just acclimatise yourself to living in a greenhouse? The active deterrent system could be good for keeping the venomous scorpions from trying to nest in the sofa though. |

Or does this kind of climate had day/night humidity and temperature cycling? You could have a sealed glass shutter that comes down to isolate the two parts of the room when the difference is more extreme. |

On the moon. One room would be exposed to lunar air. But positive pressure would keep out the vacuum, powered by some kind of nuclear turbine. You would be in some nylon harness with steel cabling and earplugs. But enough air ejected around you at any time would keep you breathing |

Poc, believe it or not, as a teenager, I think I've mentioned before I used to do these architectural system energy calcs called Title 24 energy compliance bla bla bla, but I also did load calculation and HVAC layouts. Cleanrooms would have air curtains somewhat similar to this and I've seen retail establishments use them from time to time. They're not super popular because you do get hit with a blast of air as you walk in, but that was sort of what I was thinking of for this. A variation anyway. |

As far as not looking at it, I don't think I'd want to be staring at it either, just knowing it was there would be cool. Maybe. |

Myl, I don't think you'd need that much air pressure, I think as the air went in to the mostly vacuum of the Moon it would only be going 60 MPH or so, like a refreshing breeze, a little hurricaney but I don't think it would melt your face or anything. |
