Welcome to the real - not online - Museum of Computer Games, which celebrates 30-odd years of computer gaming.

See displays, exhibits, demos, screenshots and holographic tours of behind-the-scenes making of famous games... Immerse yourself in an interactive (playable!) history of old games... Read biographies of famous designers and programmers... Browse through well-preserved copies of old magazines, laugh at the pre/reviews with the benefit of hindsight... Stroll through halls of fame (and shame)... Worship at altars of once-famous legendary gamers and watch their archived games... Try your hand at vintage arcade coin-ops and reacquaint yourself with the classics... Finally, a section of the museum where you can see the new gadgets and state-of-the-art tech being developed for tomorrow's games...

We hope this visit lets you appreciate how far computer games have grown and improved in a few short decades. And don't forget to pick up a souvenir from our gift shop stocked with old games, antique game machines and collector’s items...

Exhibition in London http://news.bbc.co....1673000/1673183.stm
There have been quite a few temporary exhibitions (like this one described by the BBC) but anyone know of a permanent museum? [pottedstu, May 07 2002, last modified Oct 21 2004]

A fine idea - if you could sort out the licensing issues, and (as you note) pretty baked on the net with countless emulators, fan pages and abandonware sites.
