Phone and watch charging puck

The shape is the important thing

This could exist in two models: Apple specific and Qi charging for other brands.

A disc shaped charger / power bank for phone and smartwatch. Approximately 2” thick and 2.5” to 3” in diameter. There’s a charging pad for a cellphone (MagSafe for Apple, Qi for other brands) on the top, and one for a watch (again, Apple proprietary or Qi) on the circumference. When charging your watch, you wrap the band around the puck so the watch can operate in nightstand mode.

The puck contains a battery so it can charge your devices without being connected to the mains. It would also have a USB-C charging port for itself (and offer pass-through charging for the watch/phone) when mains power is available.

The puck may also include folding power prongs on the face opposite the phone charging pad, so you could plug it directly into a wall outlet. This may be useful for travel as you wouldn’t need to also carry a wall-wart and charging cable. But it would reduce internal space available for the battery and may also limit the product’s market to USA or other countries where AC prongs are small enough to fold into the puck itself.

The important thing about this idea is the form factor - such a product may already exist but I haven’t found it.

       I do like the utility, but it sounds like it would be bulky and heavy, which is less than ideal for a travel charger.

       // bulky //

       Maybe but I’m hoping the all-in-one utility makes an acceptable trade off. It’s little larger than one of the battery packs I have, but with that pack I also have to carry watch and phone charging cables.

       For frequent travelers I see it being pretty useful. In fact, you could even put that extra thickness to more use by including a portable hotspot in it. My Verizon Orbic is pretty thick.

       I can see the utility of a few extra charging ports. Not sure about adding a hotspot though, unless it can do a better job of it than my phone does.

       For some of what I use my electronics for, a hotspot that doesn't come from the phone is required. Taking calls and texts on my tablet, for instance. Why they require both devices being on the same WiFi network and the phone's hotspot not counting as that, I have no idea.

       I have no idea what hockey has to do with charging phones. But +. because I like your ideas in general and this one in particular.

       Thank you, [pashute]. The "puck" reference was to help imagine the shape, what the charger would look like. Though an NHL hockey puck is a little bigger around and not as tall/thick as I expect the phone/watch charger would be.

       Do they play hockey in Israel?

       //an NHL hockey puck is a little bigger around and not as tall/thick as I expect the phone/watch charger would be//

       Why not?! The exact dimensions of a standard puck [1" (25.4mm) thick, 3" (76.2mm) diameter] would allow ports added on the side, and would be stable enough to use as a display/charger, with the addition of a retractable 45ºangle bracket, or even simpler, a suitably-angled groove carved in the top. The groove could prevent accidental use in a road hockey game. "Game on!"

       Why not same dimensions as a regulation 3" x 1" hockey puck:

       A couple of reasons:

       1) Diameter: Has to be small enough to allow fastening a watch band around it. People with smaller wrists (and correspondingly smaller watchbands) would be out of luck. I'm not even sure if 3" diameter will be small enough for everyone. Apple lists 210mm wrist circumference for LARGEST available band. That's about 2.6" diameter and implies the smaller bands (like custom sized solo loop) might be smaller.

       2) Thickness: An Apple Watch Ultra- a large but probably not the largest smart watch available - is a couple inches across the face. For it to sit on the charger in nightstand mode and also leave a bit of space above that to rest a phone flat on the top MagSafe or Qi charging pad, the charger has to be taller/thicker than a hockey puck.

       Change the hockey puck regulations.

       //smaller//taller/thicker//

       Hmm, electricity surging through a puck-sized---wait a minute, what about repurposing the magnets from old car/surround sound speakers?! I have a few in my shop right now.

       If only [8th] were still here to claim delivery through his portal to my Magic Can. Does anyone know anyone who can still get into [8th]'s shop?! Or wait, [a1], are you able to receive deliveries from Canuckistan Post, or are you off-grid next door to [2fries]?
Sgt Teacup, Jan 04 2023

       Sorry Sarge, can't help. I'm off planet at the moment and I don't know where 8th left his keys.
