Nervous skaters who hang onto the handrail at the edge all the time might appreciate it if the handrail was a moving handrail, like on escalators. Slightly better skaters might like to give themselves a bit more power by lassooing a giant ceiling fan which rotates above the ice rink so they can be dragged round and round. Really expert skaters will opt for special high-ferrous-content skates which will be whisked round at high speed by randomly moving magnets under the ice.
