A rugby playing colleague arrived at work today with a nasty black eye and several long facial scratches from forehead to cheek. It turned out that he had upset an opponent earlier in the match who had subsequently taken revenge in a ruck by stamping. The opponent's studs had caused the injuries but the referee hadn't seen a thing.

I suggested a tiny camera in the studs of every player - sod the expense! The pictures would be relayed back to an adjudicator to allow evidence to be weighed, judgements given and sentences passed.

Alternatively, the pictures could just be used by TV producers to make the game even more interesting.

Involves rubber [DenholmRicshaw, Oct 04 2004]

I'm so glad that this is not what I feared it might be that I'm going to award a croissant out of sheer relief.

I've inadvertently invented players' studs - what on earth was I thinking of? My mind is boggling.
DenholmRicshaw, Dec 11 2002

The camera would not be able to reveal if the stamping was intented or inadvertant, though it would make for some interesting television replays.

99.9% pictures taken would be grass though.. sugg alternative - make all players wear camera somewhere on their head.. that would take some fast fun pictures (might break though when the person wearing it is stamped ;))

"This game's about as exciting as watching the grass grow."
"Yeah, but it's still better than watching golf."

Spud Cam: watch the potatos grow under the feet of football players.

// afraid it was going to be a remote camera for finding wall support beams //

No, a device for helping you to put in the back collar stud on a dress shirt.

But what would happen when the stud cam got covered in mud?

[RayfordSteele] Rugby is exciting it's one of the best sports there is and it's well established and just think would there be any American Football without rugby?

[UnaBubba] You rhyme is funny, it sounds dirty but it isn’t. I’m giving this idea a croissant just cause it contains your rhyme (combined with the fact that the pictures, most definitely will rock)

So, who's going to invent the Stud Cam Automatic Lens Wiper so that this camera will ever show anything but the dirt on the lens?

8th of 7 - I agree, however, I'm not relieved enough to vote positively. I was thinking it was something about horses.

[So, who's going to invent the Stud Cam Automatic Lens Wiper ]
