Yesterday, I found that the bottle cap of my water bottle was the exact same size as the up/down buttons on the elevator. This got me thinkig and experimenting on other objects that might be the same size. So far I've been concentrating on circles. I'd like to see a site where others find things that are the same size, and possibly post pictures of the similarities.

um, the kitty litter box and the turkey pan?

will the pictures on this website be actual size?
po, Apr 17 2009

halfbakery.com and fetishwear section of eBay.com are the same size.
hippo, Apr 17 2009

Such a site needs an absolute disciplinarian pedantic streak. Photos must be actual size, with ruler in fields. Items must be within a millimeter of size. Items shaved down or built up with putty to make size will be accepted but with special provisional status.

       Withstanding list alert.

*goodbars-OCD has never been described quite so adequately as your idea portrays.

*xanie-I thought I was gonna choke laughing.

       *Quester-I dispute the "lego-lightswitch" claim.

*pooey-big pictures. I'm thinking big pictures.

*hips-somehow we knew you would vouch for that one.

*bungy-as always the voice of the far left/right... you know there will still be huge fights about the parameters.

*skinny-we don't got no list here. not us ever. Kittens either.

I've no examples...just commenting on the idea and comments. (now how many syllables was that exactly????) oh yeah +

Haha, I know how you feel, goodmars - not so long ago I found that the indentation in the lid of my biscuit tub is *exactly* the right size for a CD to fit inside. Perhaps I'm easily amused, but it cheered me somewhat.

My summer sausage will just fit inside of a pringles can.
nomocrow, Apr 18 2009

       Is "summer sausage" a euphemism?
hippo, Apr 18 2009

I do like the idea of this, but there's a question of tolerances. How precisely was your bottletop the same size as the elevator buttons? Don't you have that nagging fear, in the small hours of the morning, that a sensitive finger could detect a little discrepency in size?

Actually, I would like to see a site that just listed the sizes of things, in order of size. For example "1.97mm - diameter of a BIC Classic refill"; "18.2mm - diameter of an English 20p coin." Of course, it would have to give both metric and proper units.

       //Is "summer sausage" a euphemism?//

No, but "the joints on my oboe" is worrying.
MaxwellBuchanan, Apr 18 2009

It would be hard to compare anything with the size of those lunch treats called WagonWheels.

Linky [fries]? No idea. Simply no idea and no idea if I want an idea.
blissmiss, Apr 18 2009

[Maxwell], I'm tempted to actually start a site like that right now...measuring things has always been my forte
goodmars, Apr 19 2009

       [link] bliss.
They have been incrementally shrinking WagonWheels since I was little. Everyone says it's just my hands getting bigger but I'm pretty sure that stopped a few years ago now.

speaking of "proper" units, how much does a stone really weigh? Does it make a sound when it's rolling in the woods..?
Suede, Apr 19 2009

So it isn't just me who gets that frisson of excitement when I discover something that is the same size as something else unrelated to it. Once again, the Internet comes to the rescue of mankind. I'm undecided as to whether I'd want the work of discovery done for me by someone else, though. Meantime, have a croissant which exactly fits in the cutout in this outhouse door.

       Heh! +
DrBob, Apr 20 2009

the outhouse? fit with wifi of some sort which allows you to post to halfbakery while taking care of business? or a 3g connection on your mobile, which begs the question of how you got into an outhouse?
goodmars, Apr 20 2009

Yesss you say...but what exactly is exactly the same size as the outhouse door...I wonder.

[+] I think it would really be useful. I never seem to find a thing that fits, when I'm trying to fix something...

When I was little, I noticed the size of the hands on Lego figurines was exactly right to hold a standard size of hook/nail/screwdriver/and so on. I went through all kinds of things in the shed that my lego men could hold perfectly.

Problem with those is that it's hard to name each object without making it sound obvious: "this 2.5mm diameter nail is exactly the same diameter as this 2.5mm headphone jack..."

*almost-inevitable joke about size of somebodies mother here*
xxobot, Apr 22 2009

+ this bun is the same size as the one I forgot to give you the other day!!!
xandram, Apr 22 2009

Just last night I was at a local venue before it filled up, and on the floor right next to eachother was a heavy guitar pick and a shard of plastic from a broken tabletop. It struck me, at the time, how similar the two objects were... and yet how entirely different they were at the same time... Worlds apart, but only to the learned eye. I hadn't read this idea yet, but it fills out the experience nicely. Plus

This idea and Software Nutrition Labels has the same amount of letters in its caption. (not counting the dot)

Pen and Teller on screen (with Teller standing way back)

Incidentally: If you draw a circle with the circumference of a single unit, say 1 cm, or 1 meter, or 1 mile, it is impossible to know the exact measurement of the diameter, because it is relative to Pi, a number that cannot be defined numerically to its exact size.

Since this is true to any size of circumference it means that you cannot actually measure any distance. Hence you cannot know if anything is really the same size.

       What does "exact" mean?
xenzag, Jun 26 2013

I found something yesterday and it was exactly the same size as itself. Spooky, huh?
