Cut a wine bottle off about 2/3 of the way up the side, just before it starts tapering. Sand the sides. Turn the upper part upside down and melt a stand on to what had been the opening of the bottle. This will make a perfect DIY, low budget wine glass.

//widely baked in the 70'S// ...as was its sister technology, the beer-bottle-melted-flat ashtray cum petit four tray souvenir. They were tragicly uncool then, but might make a nice sardine dish now in a passably cool, retro-kitsch sort of way.

I don't believe even the '70s envisioned fusing the top to the bottom as a stem. Though JC kind of rushed over that part.
ldischler, Feb 13 2006

Yeah, fusing the top to the bottom was standard. I remember it from Jr. High shop class.

See links for examples of this idea for sale.

[marked-for-deletion] recipe. How to make those glass bottle glasses.

I've even seen this idea in a "Snapple" comercial.

I'm drinking out of one right now.

[admin: Ignoring the MFD. Yes, this has been done, but it's not widely known; and the idea, even though worded as a set of instructions, is not a recipe.]
