Imagine if train stations were shopping centres, offices and residential tall buildings all rolled into one. I call them work ports.

Free flowing works means this: Imagine there was a company, WorkExcelsior that offers job interviews as a service, you get approved by this interview company, you can get a job at any of the companies that use that interview company. Once vetted by WorkExcelsior, I can get a job by looking at the window of a shop to see if they accept this accreditation. I don't have to pass a job interview. I can apply by app and get a job in minutes.

Then I can go to work at my local train station. If my company doesn't have offices at the local train station, I can jump on the WorkExcelsior train and be taken to a nearby city with offices for my company. Accreditation companies take the place of recruiters and premium accreditation companies are actually in demand. They sponsor commuting costs, as you get buses, trains, taxis branded with each accreditation company.

What's wrong with recruitment being fully commoditized?

I have no idea why you're bringing transportation up, it doesn't relate to the idea at all.

It's part of the universe that this idea operates in. Branded trains, buses, cars of the company you're accredited by.

WINBI job-searching was as easy as shopping in a store, a "job station" where jobs are plentiful and good.

WorkExcelsior brand WorkNuggets are single serve employees. Everyone is qualified for life-time employment at the Soylent Green factory.

What of work history? What of personality and human face-to-face connection, that esprit-de-corps that winds the wheels of white-collar work? What, dare I say it, of hygeine?

In the modern economy, jobs tend to pay just enough for people to show up to work most of the time, and there are just enough jobs available to avoid rioting.

This idea is partially baked: by "recruiters", who typically charge one to three month's salary to the company for each successful hire, or by "staffing agencies" who pay temp workers ~2/3 of what the agency sells their time for. The WorkExcelsior agency, to offer guaranteed and instant employment, surely pays no more than 1/2 of what a free agent employee could negotiate for on the open market, once vetted through typical interviewing and references. And I for one don't want to be underpaid for my work.

The "travel" component is very "cyberpunk", a world where everyone must live within a corporate- branded caste system where one's access to infrastructure (trains, housing, shops, etc.) is determined by one's affiliation with (and usefulness to) a megacorporation. As written, this idea paints a very 1950s sci-fi picture, where jobs are plentiful and the State is benevolent. That's a nice, optimistic fantasy, in contrast to the world of "shadowrun" or "snow crash".

It's supposed to be optimistic and futuristic attitude to work and the gig economy but redefined to benefit individuals who choose corporate benefits.

Work history and pay would be handled by the application on your phone. You get reviewed by the previous work place employers and by customers.
