At "SophoTech", we are in constant need of finding the right talent to work on our super-tech products.

Out of 7B+ people, we really just need to find the ~100 who are experts at atomic-layer-deposition.

Traditionally, we'd run ads all over trying to find suitable candidates. It's an expensive, slow, error-prone process.

Instead, let's just post factually inaccurate, but relevant info on public forums. Things like "I just figured out that if you add a monolayer of Sodium on a Silicon substrate, you get an instant 40% reduction in copper diffusion, and a 200% increase in titanium bonding!" Post relevant spreadsheets with sampling errors, etc.

It's an attractor to those who know better, as they must MUST correct you. And, when they do, you gain enough contact info to flatter, then reel in to your organization.

And, it's a filter to those who have no idea what you're talking about, & they just continue to talk about sports, celebs or weather instead of joining in this.

I am trying to resist the strong urge to point out the technical errors in this post.

Trouble is your paranoid best candidate might refuse to stop hiding behind the ex-directory name "wozzdoodl3-743".

I suppose you could try dropping a flashing job advert into those waters, but then the moderator is going to delete you.

All I'm saying is that effective as this would be, it would be quite a challenge.

BTW what's a monolayer? Is it this new cloth they're using to dry out the pitch in Bangladesh? .. Oh yes! And also: Schade, England, alles ist vorbei! (Which is just German for, "Bad luck, chaps, for your recent crushing defeat by the admittedly daunting SA T20 cricket team, in Bangladesh. Chin up, now. Perhaps next time you will give us more of a fight before you go down.")

Great, now I will have difficulty staying out of flame wars because it might lead to a better job...

So, a practical application for Cunningham's Law (link).

Do you want to hire people who spend their time tibble-tabbling about on the web, delivering haughty corrections to the unenlightened ? Or do you want those nose-to-the-grindstone plowhorses!

There aren't enough of those to go around.
