You Had To Be There -- Selfies at a Distance

Sure, there's always a well-meaning stranger or fellow traveler who'll snap your picture while you stand as a group, so you're included.

What if there was a "Put me in there" button? Press it, hold your device out a bit, to give you a fair rendering, and *snap*. Your device software does a bit of layering to put your selfie somewhere into the group but at scale.

Works equally well for crowds who know you or for crowds of random strangers! No deception, really, because YHTBT

Never miss out on a group photo again, with Google Pixel 9’s ‘Add Me’ AI feature https://www.diyphot...-add-me-ai-feature/

I'd say, doctorremulac3. Thanks. It's possible I just lost a large chunk of the timeline ~ a while back.

I think I've seen adverts for some smartphone which can composite someone into a previous photo so you can get a shot of everyone. Not sure of the details, but essentially it's this, isn't it?

       (+) but...

...if you insert yourself into a picture and both images are captured at the same time then the lighting and shadows will be opposite to one another.

The only way to not make it look fake is to vertically invert the image before inserting.

Oh, I see. It takes photos from forward and backward cameras at the same time?

Apart from the reversed lighting issue 2 fries mentions, the processing would need to deal with the (presumably) significantly different distances to the subjects. I'd say with AI this was surprisingly feasible... but the more processing you subject the portrait to, the less you have to be there.

...hmmmm, okay, just a question; would a vertically inverted image of a person be recognizable by facial recognition tech?

       Inquiring minds want to know.

Given that a lot of people post mirrored images & videos (since it's often the default for a smartphone selfie-cam), & things like AI & facial recognition have learned from the internet, I strongly suspect mirroring would be taken into account during analysis. I guess it would probably double the theoretical time for analysis, but what's a few more milliseconds?
Another thought: recognising people from reflections in windows etc..?

       hmmmm...

       interesting. Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback, all. Discussing moving pictures over breakfast today, company suggested that it's a form of time lapse photography, i.e., "I'll Get In There."

P.S. 2 fries, you are always on point
