"Mech Warrior" Shoes

Shoes that make the "Mech Warrior" sound as you walk.

Slipping these shoes on will add a whole new dimension to your daily walking activities. Each shoe has a microswitch built into the sole, connected to a sound chip and minispeaker. When the switch is activated by contact with the ground, the speaker emits a "boom", emulating the sound made by a "Mech Warrior" when its "foot" hits the ground. When the shoe is "In stride" the speaker emits a "Vrrrrrrrr" sound emulating the motors moving the "Mech Warrior" Leg. So, essentially, as you walk you get the traditional "Mech Warrior" Vrrrrrrr, boom, Vrrrrrr, booom sound...

Is that the same? I don't know what a "Mech Warrior" is. [squeak, Oct 04 2004]

Annotation:

Hopefully there is a high heeled sub woofer version available...in a variety of colours of course...
Supercruiser, Oct 22 2003

[subgenius] did much the same thing, but as a pair of pants. See link.
krelnik, Oct 22 2003

I know we've done sound effect shoes before.
snarfyguy, Oct 22 2003

I posted an idea for sound effect shoes once. Mine had 6 different sound settings, including "Godzilla".
waugsqueke, Oct 22 2003

Having no idea what Mech Warrior was, I posted a [link].
k_sra, Oct 22 2003

i bet it costs less now. But in any case, the latest version is MechAssault for Xbox. And sorry, but a giant steel-plated fishbone for you.
Eugene, Oct 22 2003

It's a game with big walking tanks. When you step it goes whrr-THUNK!
Madcat, Oct 22 2003

And really Eugene, steel? It's Ferro-fiber, thankyou very much.
Madcat, Oct 22 2003

This is quite possibly one of the best ideas i have ever heard in my life. i know i used to walk around making that sound effect all hte time. Ya, used too...:D

anywho, it's all about the old school Crescent Hawks Revenge. w00t w00t
ScaryBob, Nov 22 2003

Sorry, Micky, but this has got to be redundant with squeak's idea... [marked-for-deletion]

Maybe you could add it as an annotation?
yamahito, Nov 22 2003

Nah, I'd let this one slide. First because he's a MW fan, and second because there's no way searching for "Mechwarrior Shoes" or anything like that would have told him that somebody else posted anything remotely similar.
Madcat, Nov 22 2003

There should also be music. From mechwarrior 2, of course.

And when you put the shoes on the computer voice would tell you that your that you are on planet earth, local time is 4:18, etc. Or maybe that your shoes are online, all sytems nominal.

And [Madcat], how do you know it wasn't Endo-Steel, eh?
RobertKidney, Nov 22 2003

I suppose I didn't. Then again, we're probably both wrong; given the state of the IS economy these days it probably is plain old steel.
Madcat, Nov 22 2003

It seemed good enough in mercenaries, but then that was before mw2. And the computer games are my only source of information, so I wouldn't really know.
RobertKidney, Nov 22 2003

Getting completely off topic now, do any of you know if the mechwarrior books are any good or where you'd actually start reading the things? If anyone wants to reply, email might be best. Feel free to delete this annotation [Micky Dread].
RobertKidney, Nov 22 2003

[madcat], something isn't marked for deletion simply because someone doesn't like it, but because something makes it unsuitable for the site (in the opinion of the person who proposes the tag, anyway).

I'm not denying Micky's originality, or his thoroughness in searching, I'm just doing my duty in seeing the halfbakery isn't over-run with duplicate ideas.
yamahito, Nov 22 2003

This is the finest idea ever...someone make me one
UndeadWario, Nov 23 2003

I'd give you a brief warning Mr. Kidney, the FASA universe kind of.. collapsed recently when they went out of buisness and others made money off of the BattleTech franchise. Many of those novels you will probably find offensively bad and inconsistant with things you think you know. I'd reccomend trying to read the old sourcebooks if you can find 'em.
Madcat, Nov 23 2003

I had MW2. It was great, but the disc got destroyed and my expansion for it didn't work on my computer. Now I've got MW4 Mercenaries and it's very cool as well. I wonder if you can make different sounds for different battlemechs. For example, a 100 ton Fafnir probably doesn't make as much noise as a 30 ton Osiris. Good idea.

       :)

You could plug in different chips for different sounds. For work, I would favor the tympani from "Thus Spake Zarthustra". You could have a left foot snare right foot high hat combo for when you were jogging. A field full of kids playing soccer, each with his or her own sound would be a marvel to hear.

Ha! I'd forgotten I annotated this, so I read this comment at the top...

"i bet it costs less now. But in any case, the latest version is MechAssault for Xbox. And sorry, but a giant steel- plated fishbone for you."

I thought, "What a pretentious asshole...this is a GREAT idea!

       Oh. It was me."
