smiley staples

staples that let you know if it is a happy document or not
  (+3, -1)
(+3, -1)
  [vote for,
against]

instead of a straight staple, the metal is a curve - either upwards for a happy document or downwards for bad news.

either way, the curve is accompanied by two little embossed eyes - completing the icon.

how does it know if the document is happy or not ?
pjd, Nov 17 2003

you need to decide which way round you want the staple. its a human decision.
po, Nov 17 2003

       Adorable. U

       :-O Double stapled. +
Fishrat, Nov 17 2003

Instead of staples, use paper-clips which have, on the end of the usual stiff bit of wire, an extra long and coloured bit of more-flexible wire. Then the reader can bend this extra bit of wire into the appropriate smiley or frowny face indicating to the author their opinion of the happiness of the document. This is more adaptable than the staple - which is too rigid.

       EH? What?

I approve. <stamps post with smiley staple. breaks screen.> +
k_sra, Nov 17 2003

This will cheer up the office. Would it be possible to have it stick on a pair of googly eyes?
AO, Nov 17 2003

staple diet - boom, boom! :)
po, Nov 17 2003

Wonderful idea! I've got red, green and blue staples - I'd certainly buy smiley ones.
DrCurry, Nov 17 2003

You get a smiley croissant for this... wouldn't you need a seperate stapler for the frown though? A stapler always attacks a stack of papers from the same side, so you couldn't just flip it over.
luecke, Nov 17 2003

no, the column of staples is switched round on a turntable device. it can be driven from either end, like a train.
po, Nov 17 2003

If the stapler shaped the smiley, it could work with regular staples and do both smiles and frowns.
DrCurry, Nov 17 2003

what I really want are teeth but heck, you cannot have everything :)
po, Nov 17 2003

The ends of the staple should bend back through the paper to make the eyes
hippo, Nov 17 2003

       You have sharp eyes.
AO, Nov 17 2003

       [hippo] - just what I was thinking :) +

you mean i can put my gold stars away?
sporn, Nov 17 2003

Subtle embossing techniques could give googly eyes, sticky out ears and goofy teeth, no probs. 8)E
PeterSilly, Nov 18 2003

       hardly subtle, Silly!

We need more gold stars in the professional world.
RayfordSteele, Nov 18 2003

What if the document is angry? Or morose?
waugsqueke, Nov 18 2003

       :| :< both perfectly stapleable.
Worldgineer, Nov 18 2003

Question mark staples and exclaimation point staples would be sufficient
Letsbuildafort, Nov 18 2003

Most of my documents are just confused.

I should probably get myself a shrug stapler.
lostdog, Nov 18 2003

This is just such a smiley idea. Love it
The Kat, Nov 19 2003

Did you fishbone it then kat? only kidding. we know who the buggar is!
po, Nov 19 2003

How do you determine the mood of an inanimate object? How does stapling affect the mood of said inanimate object? +
sartep, Nov 19 2003

[sartep] - obviously you use an "inannimate object mood detector" - I haven't checked but surely the plans are to be found in the bakery somewhere? And I don't think the staple affects the mood but reflects it.
dobtabulous, Nov 20 2003

Do tell Po, who's the buggar?

<taps side of nose knowingly with finger>
po, Nov 20 2003

Could you have staples shaped as bent fingers with a single digit extended? Of course, the choice of finger to extend would determine to whom the papers were going.

       Index finger: "Get the point?"

       Middle finger: Self-explanatory

Ring finger: "Are you ready to take the plunge?"

Little finger: (for those inter-office trysts) "I don't think you measure up big boy"

Here is a crosissant-shaped staple at you.
Klaatu, Nov 20 2003

UB, would you mind awfully if I delete that last remark?

       tough shit :)

This is so cool! Someone really should market this. It'll sell like hot croissants!

       <staples [tsuka]'s anno firmly to the posting>
k_sra, Mar 02 2004

(notices smiley staple in [k]'s monitor, liquid crystal slowly leaking out) Enjoying your new stapler a bit much, I see.
Worldgineer, Mar 02 2004

       <staples [Worldgineer]'s sarcasm to [World]'s forehead> (so there!) : )
k_sra, Mar 02 2004

(notices blood running down [k]'s forehead, takes stapler) You've lost your stapler privileges for the day. (psst... I thought you were a she)
Worldgineer, Mar 02 2004

And if you use a second straight staple just above the curved one but stapled from the backside the two legs of the staple will form the eyes of the smiley.

[po], you should start your own line of cute little knickknacks like this one, somewhat along the lines of the Hello Kitty stuff. You could call the company, say, oh . . . Hello Potty, maybe.
bristolz, Mar 02 2004

       LOL
k_sra, Mar 02 2004

       I recently dropped my stapler on the floor and now, every time that I staple anything, all of my staples now look like smiley faces after 24 pints. Does that count? :}

Klaatu, Mar 15 2004

I want one! I'm always the one people call when they need supplies (hey, you got a 9V battery in there?). I'd buy one! Two! Ya know, if you take the smiley staples and staple enough in a certain pattern, you COULD make a little croissant!
spacecadet, Mar 15 2004

I assume the mechanism for embossing the eyes would have to be able to rotate around either end of the smile/frown.
