I get this idea when I am try to display my palm pilot screen in TV. Instead of different display screen on different devices, we should make them be able to talk to each other. An universal video output protocal and connection.

That way you can dettach or disconnect display unit on one device and use it on another.

Make TV, lcd projector, computer, laptop, palm pilot, color cell phone display interchangeable. That way people can reuse old display when the device itself become obelete.

[phoenix]: "Projects" Pocket PC display (also known as cerdisp).  Extremely useful for showing pocket PC apps to large groups on a projection system or PC screen.  Staple of people doing app dev for ppc. [bristolz, Mar 20 2002, last modified Oct 04 2004]

(Fails to see the benefit of putting low resolution output on a CRT or projected display)

I understand that it could be done, but blowing up a 320x240(?) display to 8'x6' won't do much for readablility.

The display is still a 240x320 slice out of the screen and appears just as sharp as the rest of the screen whether it's on a 15" LCD or a 40'x30' Eidophor projection system. The pixel dimensions and the projection dimensions don't have much to do with each other.

OK, the whole idea started when I was working on my other idea of all-in-on car computer. I am trying to see if I can use my GPS Handspring for navigation but I do not want to looking at the map at such small screen when driving. So I am tried to use mini video camera to take the screen picture to transmit them to a LCD screen. The quality is not so good mainly because of the reflection and ambient light noise. That is what got me thinking how useful would a universal display unit would be in situation like this.
