I never saw GPT get something right.

So this website will assist it with human markings of NEED SOURCE or REVIEWED and ACCEPTED, or simply WRONG with a source for that.

Then people like me who all their life spewed out information about everything (and life and the world) and now find themselves out of work with Chat GPT, will have what to waste their lives on.

A prescient, devastating commentary on humanity’s disintegrating attachment to reality and truth. [a1, Jul 02 2023]

       [-] Congratulations, you’ve just (re)invented fact checking. A time honoured profession in every form of media since the invention of moveable type, possibly longer. Even ChatGPT knows this…

       Me: What is a fact checker?

       ChatGPT: A fact checker is an individual or organization that verifies the accuracy and truthfulness of claims, statements, or information presented in various forms, such as news articles, speeches, social media posts, advertisements, and more. Fact checkers employ rigorous research methods to examine the evidence, sources, and context behind the claims being made.

       The primary goal of fact checkers is to provide objective and reliable information to the public by assessing the validity of statements made by politicians, public figures, media outlets, and other sources of information. They analyze the available evidence, consult experts, review data, and cross-reference information to determine the accuracy and veracity of the claims being checked.

       Fact checkers typically follow a standardized process, which involves investigating the claim, evaluating the evidence, and issuing a verdict indicating whether the claim is true, false, misleading, or requires further clarification. They often publish their findings on dedicated websites, news platforms, or through social media channels, making their assessments accessible to the public.

       The practice of fact-checking plays a crucial role in promoting transparency, accountability, and critical thinking in the media landscape. It helps to combat the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda, providing people with reliable information to make informed decisions and judgments.

       Unfortunately AI systems are probably being used as those fact checkers right now.
xenzag, May 21 2023

       True, and not just ChatGPT. But as with any tools, you only get good results when you know how to use them.

       On the other hand, strip [pashute]’s suggestion down to the bone and it’s not traditional, institution level fact checking. It’s still not original though - many online references sources allow / invite users to interact and correct their output.

       I Iive in a place where everything is interpreted via two diametrically opposed systems of truth, where one person's sectarian terrorist murderer is another person's legitimate freedom fighter. The truth is established by the last person to add it to the history books and changed by the next person who rubs it out. The masters of this is a political/terrorist organisation called Sinn Fein who are busy rewriting history every day and expunging from it their every action. I only totally trust what I have directly experienced. Give me gravity every day.

       I think this idea is a bit "ambulance at the bottom of the cliff".
Rather, it would be better to fact-check the ChatGPT (& all the others) source data, & remove all the mis-information crap off the internet while you're at it. So when people or AIs search for things, the answers are correct!

       Facts change according to who owns them. Who's going to do the checking? example Russia says they didn't destroy an underwater gas supply pipe. How's that going to be fact checked?
xenzag, May 21 2023

       but its our wiki, so we control who has access to it and what gets on it. We share with other humans the interactions that we had with the AI, and have open discussions about it. The AIs can perhaps learn from it after a while, and get better info.

       A1, don't you think that's a waste of words for explaining what fact-checking is and who's a fact-checker?

       BTW, Israelis can't say Fact. It comes out f***ed.

       Is that a fuct?

       //possibly longer//

       Specifically Thucydides, the Father of Fact-Checking (in contrast to Herodotus, the Father of Click-Bait).

       // Thucydides //

       [pertinax], awesome reference - thanks.
