AI Occupation Replacement Watch-list

A list of industries that will be rendered obsolete by artificial intelligence updated with news of that process as it occurs.

Anybody who does anything has wondered: "Will my job be replaced by artificial intelligence?". For instance, there's some controversy about the arts being created by AI, certainly a topic for discussion but I'd say that human interaction is what art is actually all about.

However there are at least two professions that are already on the chopping block in my eyes:

1- Lawyers, first and foremost because the lawyer ethos, play acting and lying to create a synthetic reality in court has translated into how our culture is controlled because politicians are largely former lawyers. This means power and control of the government is often based on who's the better liar. Once you can just put the information in "Need a contract for..." or "Here's what happened in that car accident, uploading police report now..." lawyers are obsolete. (Good riddance in my opinion.)

2- Teachers. There may still be social interaction centers with coaches that discuss what AI is teaching the students but each student having their individual abilities, needs, lesson plans and progress evaluated by AI is going to send learning skyrocketing. The cranky grammar teacher who wanted to be an author and settled for teaching 6th grade English is gonna be a thing of the past.

Etc.

So how this would work is there would be a web page with a list of occupations on the chopping block. As a news story about its impending demise popped up, it would be listed by date. The events up to that time in the evaluation of the AI occupation replacement would be listed to start things off.

Employment figures by date would be added as well with a graph showing the decline and how those declines lined up with the AI advancements causing those declines.

This is one of those posts where I'm wondering if it's actually been done but I'm too lazy to look myself. If it hasn't been, it should be. Give the people being replaced a heads up so they can start looking for another job.

well, the High School English Essay is certainly threatened by ChatGPT -- which I guess puts out of business those who like me used to sell them to the jocks in high school.

It's funny that all of a sudden AI advances are much more important in art and science rather than the "mechanical" professions that have been theoretically threatened for ages (e.g. driving)

like every revolution, this one appears to eat its own

LOL! I so hope that's true. If so AI will never take your past accomplishments away from you.

And yes, I'm not going "luddite" about this. Technology replacing human labor has been going on for a long time. It's why we don't have to get up every morning and go foraging for food.

Hey TC, I went right the the end of that expecting to see a surprise ending: "Don't believe me? This was written by AI."

Well, Medical professionals. This is partly what Watson was having a go at earlier. If it becomes general purpose and available to anyone, it will be a great way for people to get super paranoid about that cough but also potentially be re-assured by synthetic empathy.

Governments lately have been pushing trade schools pretty hard. They know something.

I can see that, the diagnoses aspect of medicine anyway. And there’s the physical layer of the world that’ll always need hands on, be they human or robotic.

As far as the other jobs, I'll call it the luddite's paradox (not sure if that's a new expression). You lose your job but don't need it anymore since automation replaced everybody.
