Additional Bathroom Taps

We get water through taps. So why not soap and shampoo too? Okay, so it doesn't make sense to pipe soap and shampoo from factories across miles and miles to your average home (too sluggish and doesn't flow fast enough), quite aside from the question of choice.

But why not bath-tubs and sinks that come equipped with built-in taps and containers where you can store whatever type of liquid you need? Liquid soap, shampoo, certainly. Also useful for: hair gel, lotions, perfume, shaving cream, orange juice, liquor and whatever else you might need in the bathroom.

So what's the advantage over the usual plastic containers, you might ask. Well, for one thing when you're in the bath you might be too lazy to climb out and reach that shelf where your shampoo is kept, or you might just freeze to death if you get out. Besides, the built-in containers can store a lot more stuff. And turning on a tap is just so much more convenient.

With some modifications, you can make the stuff come out from your shower sprinkler too.

We did have the 'Extra Stuff on Tap' idea at one time. It must have gone when its author did.

The insides of those taps would soon get pretty disgusting with dried shampoo etc. And when you switch to a different shampoo, you'd have to somehow dismantle everything to clean it out (or you get an unpleasant mix of several kinds of shampoo coming from the tap). On the whole, this would be more work than today.

What I am missing here in New Zealand is third water tap on the sink. There are two taps on most Kiwi bathrooms. One for freezing cold and another for really hot water!

Mixing taps are still a bit of a novelty here in Old Zealand and solution would be to add third tap for lukewarm water.

often a "novelty" here too, none of them work in the same manner; all require proprietary fiddly bits that wear out over time.

I notice most pubs have bottles of spirits upside down connected to a tap. So I think it's possible.

Those things are called "optics" - which is a much better idea than this one, by the way: Optics for the Bathroom - a set of optics attached to the wall next to the shower which shampoo, soap, conditioner bottles with standardised screw-threads can attach to.
