Device is a slotted teaspoon with a clip for the side of the cup and a clockwork mechanism for timing and bag extraction.

In use the clip is snapped to the side of the cup and the spoon is rotated into the cup of hot water. This winds the clockwork and cocks the spoon simultaneously. A teabag is added over the spoon.

An internal spring winds down for an appropriate steeping time, then the spoon engages and gently lifts the bag out of the cup, leaving it to drip gently.

Now when you finally remember your cup of tea, the bag has been safely removed. It may have gone cold, but not bitter.

Enjoy!

Don't know if this is what angel was thinking of, though. And it doesn't really give a mechanism for teabag removal/disposal. [DrCurry, Jul 28 2006]

I once entered a competition with something a little like this. [fridge duck, Jul 28 2006]

We did this once before but I suspect it may have gone poof at some point.

Sheesh - what is this, some sort of teabag arms race?

I'm thinking if you had an arm that swirled the teabag around, you wouldn't need a spoon (the moving teabag itself would do the stirring). Also, per the technology on some of the other teabag ideas, at the end, the teabag shouldn't be left to drip, but should be wrung out first.

[DrCurry] Its called brainstorming. With all the requisite flooding and general destruction.

Good work, [Galbinus]. Unnecessary clockwork gadget for making tea = buns.

I got a bad feeling when I read the title. Bun, simply because it wasn't what I feared.

in one of the MAKE magazines, there was a set of instructions for making a tea bag remover from an electric toaster. it didn't have a mechanism to swirl around the bag though.
