Whilst dismally failing to appear suave, sophisticated and attractive to the cute lady selling me an airline ticket, I was struck by the fuel surcharges.

Obviously the best way is we all bring our own avgas and then we don't have to pay the surcharge.

On a more serious note, lack of pilot wonga has caused whip-arounds with the passengers, 1995 Monarch Airline's in Romania and, of course, Comtel Air in Vienna 2011, so it would suit the airlines as well.

Simply check in your fuel at the check-in desk and...there you go.

just wait 'til the pilot surcharge next year.

Based purely on what I glean from media reports and articles, Oriental/Pacific airline companies don't seem to be having the problems that currently beset the American and European airlines.

Is this true, and if so, why the feck aren't the western lines emulating their business practices?!

Unless you are flying in piston-powered General Aviation aircraft, I would suggest that you bring Jet-A. <link>

good thinking, and some way of assaying contributions, as someone's bound to get the wrong pump and buy diesel.

I can bring along my usual methane supply, for variety.

[Alter] yields 14 or more cubic feet of LNG per day, I believe.

...which leads is to a rather disturbing image...one obvious source of methane would be cows. Now, sadly cows seemed not be designed with a high output/weight ratio, a shocking oversight on the creator's part.

Luckily we don't need all the cow, just the digestive tract. I'm thinking that as Daisy takes her last steps in that building where cows many enter and none leave, it might be possible to salvage the digestive tract.

An array of these probably best out of sight of the passengers..

       "Tripe!" I hear you saying...

I thought "BYO" was "brew your own", and had visions of a domestic alcohol/biodiesel style set-up.

The 'natural gas' I and my dogs produce* is not LNG, as it is neither petroleum based nor in liquid form. Rumor has it, however, that it is quite combustible. The ladies down at the Heathen Institute for Inadvisably Applied Science & Mailing Strange Things to Australia are currently attempting to refine it for use in my multi-fuel deuce- anna-half, although collection and storage are presenting a major challenge.

Did you ever get that smouldering conflagration in your underwear drawer under control, [Alter]?

I initially only read the first ten words of that post, and it did leave room for several disturbing interpretations..
