Canned Canning Jars

No more broken jars!

Canning jars typically are sold by the box. The jars are made of glass, and are often packed right next to each other, so any modest mishandling of the box, including accidents, will cause jars to break. This needs to be fixed!

So, get a nice steel can. Put appropriate protective stuff in the can, like bubble wrap. Put the canning jar in the can, completely surrounded by the protective stuff. Seal the can. The steel provides extra protection for the canning jar. Sell the canned canning jar to anyone who wants a canning jar that very probably won't be broken when needed. Perhaps they might even be sold in a box that contains several of them.

       So a Jarcan. I like +.

This idea is way too short. It lacks an introductory preamble on fracture mechanics, and detail on the dimensions of can and jar, the thickness of the steel, and so forth.

I note also that it falls entirely within the purview of current engineering and physics, and involves no violation of basic physical laws. This needs to be correctified.

       Yeah. What's happening Vernon?

And why not bubble wrap? Isn't that cheaper?

For that matter, there's only a few of us who know what a canning jar is. Why the investment in new methods for old school tech? Did you break some jars of heads, hearts, or tails?

Every now and then a silly notion enters my thoughts, like "canned cans", and I think, "Hmmm, there's a HalfBakery post derive-able from that, somehow...".

According to the link, a "canning jar" is a "jar".
MaxwellBuchanan, Jul 06 2014

[MaxwellBuchanan], the lid of a canning jar is what makes an ordinary-looking jar into a canning jar. The lid is special. But of course it still needs to fit the jar, and if the jar is broken, the lid by itself won't do you much good....

So what you're saying is that when the jars we use for canning get jarred, they can no longer can, but if we can the canning jars before the can gets jarred, they can can.

Do I have that about right? (and is Toulouse-Lautrec spinning in his grave?)
