Recently I saw a movie, "The Intern" featuring Robet De Niro as a retired guy who decides he still needs to work. So he becomes an intern at a start-up Internet fashion-sales company, the only one wearing a suit while everyone else is casually dressed.

But he has a secret weapon, handkerchiefs in a vest pocket of the suit, which exists specifically for that purpose. The hankies are essential not for one's own nose, but for when a lady needs to have a good cry.

Well, here I am casually dressed, wondering how I can manage to have a hanky-holding pocket when all my usual pockets are full of other stuff. I do prefer to Be Prepared for various circumstances. I don't want to wear a suit, so...I need a way to add an extra pocket.

Thus this Idea. Some might call it a pouch instead of a pocket, but even if it was called a pouch, I'm not sure of any that are available that can be clipped onto one's belt or the waistband of one's pants. I might even want two or three of them....

       Jeans should feature a kerchief pocket on the left, corresponding to the watchpocket on the right.

       Sadly, WKTE since at least the 1400's. Pockets were originally separate items, hence the nursery rhyme:

       Lucy Locket lost her pocket,
Kitty Fisher found it;
Not a penny was there in it,
Only ribbon 'round it.

       How convenient. Did anyone witness Kitty finding the pocket?

       [MaxwellBuchanan], I'm quite aware that for a long time a coin pouch was carried about at the end of a drawstring (note the term "cutpurse", a thief with a knife to cut that pouch loose).

       In this case though, the pocket/pouch is open all the time, like an ordinary pocket. And it doesn't dangle, since clips hold it to belt or waistband.

       There is a product called porta-pocket which attaches to a Velcro band so even nudists can have pockets. [link]

       I was thinking this might be marketed to naturists. The standard issue pockets we come with are all associated with various biological functions.

       But that would leave open the question of where you clip it on.

       And doesn't that question just open a whole new can of worms ...

       Lucky you had a detachable pocket to keep your can-opener in, isn't it ?
