A mouse, but inside its a modified PDA.
The mouse 'tail' is in fact your monitor output.
It would have bluetooth built-in so that you could use a bluetooth keyboard.
So at work (or wherever) you set up your "docking" station, but in fact all that would be would a bluetooth keyboard and a monitor.
More
portable than a laptop and no need to synchronise like a PDA.
Obviously rubbish at getting at your documents on the go....

Having a small screen built into the mouse would allow you to use it as a PDA when not near a larger monitor... I think it's a great idea, although plugging in a keyboard may be a little more involved. I suppose if you are treating the monitor as a docking station, then you could have a separate keyboard built in - or one of those laser ones... |

/smaller than a keyboard/ Yeah, but you still need the keyboard. In fact the keyboard and monitor seems to me to be the irreducible minimum of a computer. A keyboard with a trackpoint or stroke pad duplicates the function of the mouse. So the CPU/storage could reside in one of those. |

Also a mouse is the most easily lost or destoryed component of a computer. Putting the valuables in there just does not make sense to me. |

since bluetooth is getting a lot faster and they have induction pad power options consider this: |

a "workstation" that is itself a dumb terminal with built in internet,bt,etc., and a mousepad that hides an induction coil to keep the mouse charged... |

check web pages, download info, print on the built in printer in the workstation or a shared printer around 10 public terminals in a mall or airport. |

Why not put a computer in something we already always carry around with us? Our mobile phones are the obvious candidate. Some smartphones already have video out and bluetooth peripherals, the upcoming Nokia Meego handsets will be able to run any X11 application. Being able to use our phones as desktop PCs is just around the corner. |

I think you could somewhat easily bake this, including the
phone call function. Get a phone that has MHL. Pair it with
a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Disassemble the phone
and discard the screen and frame. Possibly replace the
screen with a smaller one. Put the remaining parts into the
mouse, with its power shared with the mouse's and its USB
port exposed. Connect it to a monitor via MHL (which is
restricted HDMI over USB connectors). Bonus: It has internet
access anywhere you can get a cell signal, without having to
plug in a USB cell modem like you do with a laptop. |
