Poprock candy that gives off oxygen could be marketed as a dental cleaning product. (I had this idea back when oxygenated household cleaners like Oxyclean were taking off.)

       Atomic oxygen is a very efficient biocide. Molecular oxygen (O2) much less so, and would really only affect the stringent anaerobes.

       If you had a greyish-white, tough, fibrous steak in the US, you obviously weren't eating steak in the right place, and I'd personally call into question the patriotism of whomever served it to you.   

       Sadly, the majority of chain restaurants these days will not serve rare steak for fear of food poisoning-related litigation, but I assure you most assuredly that a True American Steak is at least 1 1/2" thick, seared dark brown on the surface but vivid crimson all the way through, and as tender as the day it was born.   

       Those who prefer their steaks 'well done' are delusional, hopeless individuals who must have had very sad childhoods.   

       I apologize for the rant, but this is an issue about which I feel very strongly.

       Being fed large amounts of healthy red beef, cooked properly rare, and having grown up to become a (physically) healthy and strong and intelligent, well- informed patriot who hates to hear of honored guests in this great land being served overcooked, poor-quality, un- American steak. It's poor hospitality.

       Patriotism, not Nationalism. Very important distinction. Also, not the blind, spoon-fed, frantic flag-waving Sarah Palin type of so-called 'patriotism', either.   

       As to your question, I have no idea. Most of the steak I eat is locally grown, but I don't think BGH is as big a deal as some people are making out of it.
