This is the walk through rain shower flipped upside down with a couple of tweaks.
Picture a thousand laminar flow fountains creating a mountain of water twenty feet tall resembling a crystal palace. As you walk up to it, a hole opens up and you walk in. Behind you the opening closes up and you're
enveloped inside this mountain of water completely dry as the water shuts off wherever you step.
This is a revision of a previous post that somebody actually ended up doing. I think something that would be very nice in a public square. Tourists parting the waters to walk in and see what it's like to be in the middle of a torrent of water left completely dry.
The reason to have laminar flow water is to minimize breakup of the stream at it's apex, (zenith, nadir, apogee, peak, summit) into little drops that could more easily be caught by the breeze and blown onto the people in the fountain. Plus it would be quieter giving it a surrealistic vibe, that huge amount of water that should be deafeningly loud wouldn't be. The holes that the streams fall back into would have also have recepticals that would prevent the water from splashing and making noise. It would also look like it was made of glass.
So hey you guys who built the walk through rain shower fountain, you received accolades from building overhead version, see if you can get this one built.
And throw the inventor a hat tip this time eh?

The receptacles could use something like those urinal anti-
splash mats that janitors often install upside down (in which
orientation they do nothing useful). Those use spikes to do
something analogous to an optical anti-reflective coating
(gradient of refractive index) or a speaker horn (impedance
matching by gradual change of cross-sectional size). |
