Evil Door (3)

When you push this public restroom door to open it, the door stops midway, and you hear a dull thud, followed by "Owwwwwwww! Argggggh!". Feeling terribly guilty and positive you have injured someone who was just about to exit, you timidly and sadly peer around the back of the door to find: Nothing.

A a computer-controlled magnetic door hinge and a tiny speaker provide all the resistance and the sound effects; these are hidden in the workings of the door.

...which may be why so maybe public restrooms around here don't have doors at all.

       There was a "(1)" and a "(2)"??
MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 22 2008

       yes, dear.

Eeh gods and little fishes. Makes evolution seem like a bit of a waste of time, then.
MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 22 2008

you had that response on a timer some how.

       this brings back horrible memories...
po, Jan 22 2008

       Is there any other kind?
MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 22 2008

actually it always makes me laugh.

are you stalking me around the hb? b***
po, Jan 22 2008

Yes, he is, but we are watching him through our night vision system.

I know you are. I have my night vision detecting radar.
MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 22 2008

       o.k. 8th I can sleep (with a little p) in peace...
po, Jan 22 2008

Po, it's always a good idea to have little p before you sleep.

This is much less evil than the other doors; it's leaving the realm of pure hassle and now a funny situation has been created to thwart the user, thusly diminishing the evilness of the door. Heck, the only thing I'm gonna do about the door at this point is laugh it off after I figure it all out.

I suggest maybe a dummy that can collapse after the sound, thereby ensuring immense anxiety for the user. This is evil.

Oh, and what is more: if the person leaves the scene they will have to deal with the guilt of leaving someone harmed and unattended to. This is extra evil. Later, when their friends tell them it was just a dummy, the user will have to bear the admittance of being so cruel as to leave someone harmed and unattended. This is super evil seeing as nobody got hurt in the first place.

Would it not be simpler simply to arrange a spike and a tethered kitten?
MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 22 2008

That's really evil. Some poor bugger has to take the trouble to tether a new kitten up every time.
Ling, Jan 23 2008

       : ) +

// tether a new kitten up every time //

No problem. We are ready to take up the challenge. We will even provide our own spike, and supply of kittens......

I've encountered similar Evil Doors (3) with hydraulic door closers. The mechanism produced the half-swing thud and a vague "oof!" sound, which can only have been intentional. The kitten/spike has proven to be less frequent.
