# Extra long golf club

Its just geometry.
 (+3, -1) [vote for, against]

If two wheels are turning at the same rate, a point on the outer edge of the larger one will be moving faster than a point on the outer edge of the smaller one. A swung golf club essentially describes a circle. To achieve a faster speed for a point on the edge (the club head) - increase the radius of the circle!

But enough boring geometry! BUNGCO knows what you want - to hit the ball farther than anyone thought was humanly possible! Get ready for the Long Club! The starter model is just under 10 feet long. The head is appropriately angled for the required swing. You want leverage? With the Long Club, you will have leverage enough to pound the ball hundreds of yards!

But the 10 foot model only retains its charm for so long. Become a member of the BUNGCO Long Club Club and after achieving certain goals and passing certain initiations, you will be sent longer and longer clubs. Those who ascend high in the ranks of the LCC wield clubs that are 20 feet and longer! Some of these clubs are so long that they may only be used in secret, after dark, on special courses open only to those initiated into the LCC. Which could be YOU!

something like this might work [bungston, Jun 02 2010]

Non-conforming http://answers.yaho...070821181035AANwei2
The USGA Rules of Golf state (in appendix II): c. Length The overall length of the club must be at least 18 inches (457.2 mm) and, except for putters, must not exceed 48 inches (1,219.2 mm). [LoriZ, Jun 03 2010]

Surely the danger of wielding the extra-long clubs could be ameliorated if the clubber stood on stilts?
 — pocmloc, Jun 02 2010

I did not mention the stilts piece because I thought it would be so obvious. Or the kilts with the stilts because that too would be very obvious in a different way.

Oh, right - I was thinking hovering, with jetpacks.
