This idea is for a giant disco ball to be placed in orbit around the Earth. It would need to orbit such that it was always directly above the longitude which lay about an hour after sunset. This would mean that most of the people able to see it would be in darkness but the disco ball, because of its
height above the Earth's surface, would be lit by the sun. If the angle to the sun were low enough, it would be lit by sunlight filtered through the Earth's atmosphere and would thus not just be sparkly, but sparkly and red.

See the 2nd article -- people want a robotic mirror installed on the ISS so they can flash morse code messages. Are they halfbakers, or what! [Amos Kito, Sep 09 2005]
||Slightly baked [link]. In the year 2001, there were two simultaneous disco balls in orbit. Unfortunately, they weren't "giant".
||+ as long as it doesn't collide with the moon.
||I'd swap the idea name with the summary.
||In that regard, why not simply spray the Moon silver?
