I actually can envision many "Theme Cemeteries", but Golf seems to be one that many, many people would spend money to get into. Unlike a lot of other sports, even people who play very badly spend a lot of money to do it.
So a cemetery for golfers, to be laid to rest with other golfers (perhaps in
groups of 4), would appeal to a large number of people.
The grounds, of course, would be well kept. The grass would be neatly trimmed and kept free of debris. The ladies' graves would be 20 yards in front of mens', which in turn are 20 yds in front of the "Pro's".
And rather than just come and lay flowers and weep, the departed's family comes and plays mini-golf around the cemetery (maybe incorporating tomb-stones for bank-shots, although that's pretty morbid). What a lovely way to pay tribute to that golfer who used to be in your life.

I was really hoping this was a combination golf course/cemetery. seems so silly to use up all that nice real estate and lawn care just to put people underground. duirng the ceremony you'd need people standing to the sides with 'QUIET' signs. |

Polartomato: Why not use airfields ? You could bury pilots along the sides of runways, and put the approach lights on top of them like a memorial beacon. We consider that themed cemetaries could quite genuinely be a popular thing and there is no reason that they should not be built, as long as the intended occupants choose their resting place in advance of their own free will. Then we thought of some of the war cemeteries ... and it suddenly didn't seem quite so amusing. But we don't want to knock the general idea, if people want it. |

Apropos of [Matty]'s link, even if only slightly, my aunt lived for several years in Ladywell Cemetery in London, but only because she was the crematorium superintendent. (She was, in fact, the first female licensed crematorium superintendent in the country.) |

Yes, I see what you mean. Except its a very watery version of "Goth", isn't it, today's cemetery. Where are the pillars, and the imported ravens? A Goth-themed cemetery (that's hard to say!) should look like a Tim Burton movie. |

This theme cemetaries idea reminds me of something I saw
on PBS once about this guy in Ghana who makes theme
coffins. He would shape and paint it in the likeness of
something that was a big part of the deceased person's
life. I remember one family had a coffin made to look like
a 56' red and white buick. |

I came up with a similar idea of combining the greenspaces
of golf courses and cemeteries - only to have a search reveal
this posting. I propose the added embellishment of having
no visible grave markers cluttering up the golf course as this
requirement could be taken care of by Virtual Reality
Goggles. |

After a happy Foursome plays through, a grieving family
equipped with VR goggles could stand in the same spot on
the Green and see a towering and baroque edifice over the
exact spot their loved one is interred. Sort of like Pokemon
Go - but not quite so cheery. |

days to be allocated to the golfers whilst the dreary, rainy
