Hitler negative space

The idea is to attempt to aim for clarity by explicitly mentioning the aspects of the 20th century (and ongoing) shennanegans that were not done by some bloke with a funny moustache and daddy issues - which turns out to be basically all of them.

For example, "Trump is like Hitler because ..." would be replaced by "I have caused problems by abdicating my responsibility to some narcissist because ..."

How come this guy gets a statue? http://www.genco-tour.mn/
If this guy isn't history's reigning grand champion asshole I don't know who is. [doctorremulac3, Oct 14 2020]

If someone were to invent a time machine and go back in time and kill Hitler, who would we blame all of our problems on?
RayfordSteele, Oct 14 2020

“(without) Hitler, who would we blame our problems on?”
-RayfordSteele, Oct 14 2020

A common alt-history theme. I think Stalin and Communism would fill the mind-space left by removing Hitler and the Nazis from history.

// who would we blame our problems on? //

       Catholics ? Muslims ?

       But not Jews, obviously ....

Catholics, Muslims, Jews? All plausible villains, but I think what spidermother was going for here was a figurehead and his/her ascendant movement to represent a bogeyman of the last century. In an alternate history, it’s just as likely* that Henry Ford and Charles Coughlin could have played that role.

*If we ascribe a non-zero probability to something that didn’t happen, then ANYTHING is “just as likely.”

       // a figurehead and his/her ascendant movement //

Abraham, then; the start of all three of the aforementioned major monotheistic religions.

"That's just the sort of thing that Abraham would say !"

Hmm. Not quite the same, somehow.

8th, I could almost be nice and give you credit for taking a long view. The roots of interline conflict DO go back much further than the 20th century - or even Abraham - but a lot of people need an evil avatar within the short memory their own lifetime - or going no further back than their grandparents.

If you insist on a long view, I’d blame those visitors who planted TMA-0 in what became the Olduvai Gorge.

Or Q for poking his hand into that little pond of goo.

You can't really get more evil, in terms of damage done, than the Khans. I sometimes wonder why we talk about Hitler rather than the Genghis clan.

Nobody even came close to getting away with the human genocide and suffering, raping and pillaging old Genghis did if having a statue built in your honor is any indication of dodging the judgement of history. And it's not a small one. I'm not for tearing down statues usually, but putting up a comparitively new one of this guy? Jeez. (link) Here's some of the fun stuff they did:

They'd capture a city, give the men weapons and have them attack the next victim city. While those guys were getting slaughtered, the real troops on horseback would surround the battlefield and close in. Not sure if they were the first to use the feint and pincer movements but they certainly used them to their advantage. Then they'd leave the city and wait till people returned, ride in again and wipe them out.

But old Adolph gets all the press. He's sitting across from Genghis in hell, pointing and laughing his ass off. "Oh look Genghis, they mentioned you once on the Halfbakery! What's that, 20,000 to one?"
doctorremulac3, Oct 14 2020

I'm just surprised that no one has posted the Genghis Khan-can as an idea yet. (as a type of pillaging dance of course)
xenzag, Oct 14 2020

OK, I laughed at that. Certainly didn't see it coming.
doctorremulac3, Oct 14 2020

Fun fact: The Genghis clan raped so many people there's a 50% chance you're (if you're living anywhere but Africa) one of his descendants.

I'm one of them. My grandparents came from the Ukrain.

My other side is supposedly related to William Wallace which I was always told was something cool but never cared about till the movie. Which was largely made up I know, but still.

So in honoring my heritage of these two great warriors, I go to the gym and hit a bag of cotton batting wearing padded gloves so I don't hurt my hands.

Genghis 1155/1162 to 1227 , Hilter 1889 to 1945. If evolution gets more enlightened, whom is suppose to know better?
