Alright, [Jon], I went to the website but I don't get the game. Is it like Trivial Pursuit but on cards, and whomever knows the most tiddliest bits of stuff is the winner? And your idea is to transfer the one-upmanship to real life situations?

And if you trump the surgeon, he performs the vasectomy free?
k_sra, Nov 09 2003

Good idea but what would the categories on the cards be? IQ Level, Languages spoken, education level. Too classical. The categories should reflect the true randomness of human nature, well in mine at any rate. Ergo, I propose these trump identity cards bear stats such as: Big toe prehensility, Lip allergy reaction time to collagen, Knee and elbow knobbliness, Ability to recite the Lord's Prayer in 3 different languages. These would make for a much more entertaining and action-packed life. But other games to rule everyday life come to mind. Who has never wanted to take on the tax collectors in a game of Russian Roulette or the strippers down the local joint in a thrill-packed ride of spin the bottle.

...freckle count, nostril diameter, scar count, time taken to eat 2 dry crackers...
silverstormer, Nov 09 2003

[mistress and silver] careful not to make this into a list ... list annos are not popular on the h-b. good ideas though! Scar count (+). What about bakery favourites custard consumption, bizarre metaphor usage and pin rememberances?

Ok how about: everyone in the country gets to pick one category, and then the cards contain computer chips so they can store and display all of these wacky categories.

Pet's waist measurement. No cat could be wider in the girth than my cat.

"And if you trump the surgeon, he performs the vasectomy free?"
Well, if you *jump* the surgeon, he probably will...

Genius. This fun factor will surely clinch the argument for ID cards in the UK. Somebody call David Blunkett.

Can I suggest we set the categories to reward good behaviour? Number of illegal migrants apprehended, benefit cheats reported, WMDs located etc.

I thought there would be something about bridge in here, but no.

Trump Seigfried and Roy and see the results ... HEY! what happens if the person you Trumped beats you, you get their job, and then DIE ... do they get their job back? or are they forever trapped in Trump Limbo?

Love Top Trumps, hate Identity Cards. Fishcake.
DrBob, Nov 11 2003

<a bit off topic>Hate ID cards. I'm originally from the Uk and not used to having to carry one. I have to carry one here though and wish I didn't. The police do regular, random checks of people just walking about in town, going to the shops etc. and if you don't have your card or similar, they lock you up till someone brings it.

The attitude taken by most of the police I've come into contact with for this reason is that the public don't have the right to go about their business in the place where they live unless they can prove that they're not a wanted criminal or illegal immigrant.

I myself am neither of these things and fully understand *some* of the advantages that ID cards bring. My problem is with the "guilty until proven innocent" attitude taken by those who enforce this law and the fact that a piece of paper or plastic or the lack of it can give the police the right to hassle me even if I am helping an old lady to cross the street whilst voluntarily picking up litter and collecting donations for a hospice.

It seems as if ID's will be brought in in the UK and I hope that the UK police will deal with them better.
squeak, Nov 11 2003

thing is though [squeak], we all carry ID cards, we just don't name them as such.

In the UK (as you'll know), we have driving licenses, National Insurance cards and passports, all of which are in effect national ID cards.

I'm in favour of a card which incorporates much of this into one. why not?
jonthegeologist, Nov 11 2003

Yes, after all, you have nothing to fear if you have nothing to hide.
-alx, Nov 11 2003

As this has turned into an aye or nay for National ID cards...I'm persoanlly all for it.
silverstormer, Nov 12 2003

Well, [jon] . When in the UK, I certainly don't carry my driving licence, passport and National Insurance card with me everywhere. I don't want to loose them or get them nicked.

Also only the passport has a photo in the uk (the driving licence doesn't either or have they changed that now? anyway mine doesn't)so the others could not be used as ID over here.

I think incorporating them all into one card is a pretty good idea, I am just dead set against it being *compulsory" to carry an ID card lest it degenerate into what happens over here.

I don't want to have to be able to prove that I have the right to walk around freely.

[alx] read my last anno properly. I have nothing to hide from the police yet they have hassled me over ID on more than one occasion.

And on the original idea, can I win for smallest bladder capacity? Do you get points for amount of difference between photo and actual appearance?
squeak, Nov 12 2003

//can I win for smallest bladder capacity? //

       Ha, ha, ha!

I think we might want to avoid translating extremity into currency. It has been tried in the past with fairly dubious results.
k_sra, Nov 12 2003

[squeak] driver's license does have a photo card with it - you may not have one as yet but when you try to re-new yours, you'll be issued with a photocard.

In essence, I'm all for an ID card, especially as it means I can dispense with other forms of ID. I, like you, am against it's compulsory carrying but I'm strongly for compulsory issue.
jonthegeologist, Nov 12 2003

Well that's settled then...<wanders off to make cup-a-soup and see if it leaves a watermark>
squeak, Nov 12 2003

[squeak] Perhaps I could have been clearer, but my comment was sarcastic...I'm totally with you on the "guilty until proven innocent" thing.
