If they had grooved roads you could play songs by dragging your muffler along the groove. The recording process is made so that under normal driving the song sounds normal. This is good because if the song is a good song, people would be less likely to speed because they want to hear the song right. Or, on a heavier note, they could encode a warning saying "Your muffler is dragging....Your muffler is dragging..."

I know this qualifies as a wouldn't it be nice if.... but the record companies could make an area a tourist attraction with a good song on route X.

Hitcylinders is deep fried, Musical Mufflers will probably never be baked because of the cost involved in grooved pavement.

Pretty similar halfbaked idea. [pottedstu, Dec 17 2001]

Aside from slightly more in the way of implementation details, I don't see how this is different from Road tunes. Incidentally, [egnor] claimed in a note to Road tunes that a musical road has been baked.

white lines could be painted on the roads. the car would read the lines like a cd player reads a cd. it could also be used like a bar code scanner at a grocery store and use a HUD to help the driver to avoid missing a stop sign and such.

The car would become the back seat driver.
