A retractable spindle with a wound up earphone cable located inside the laptop. I realize there might be space constraints so point that out in the comments. Also, it should accommodate for removing the earphones completely, should the need arise.

I worked for 10 years for the worlds largest laptop manufacturer and was occasionally involved, at a long arms length, in the design of laptops. This sort of option came up all the time and was always rejected for two reasons - space and moving parts. Manufacturers are always trying to reduce the size and weight of laptops and there is never space for something considered non-essential. Plus, moving parts are the most likely failure points on any machine so the less moving parts you have the better. Even so, it should definitely be standard. |
