Paper Ribbon 3D printer

  [vote for,

This 3D printer has a head that feeds out a 1cm ribbon of paper from a roll, coating it with glue as it feeds out between two tiny rollers. Besides moving in X, Y and Z, the head can also rotate about the vertical axis.

Thanks to some ingenious software, this machine can weave the ribbon back and forth, making crisp changes of direction where appropriate by folding the ribbon back on itself. In this way, it gradually builds up a solid object, as long as there are no features less than 1cm wide. Software allows for the triangular double thickness of paper where the ribbon has been turned and folded at an angle.

Can the feedstock be flash paper, with a nitrocellulose-based glue ?

That was the default, for your shipment.

It could be a paper mache type arrangement. Could throw in a U.V. cured resin, have the U.V. lamp just behind the nozzle, maybe multiple lamps to take account of differs directions of travel.

Is the cured resin flammable ?

//Is the cured resin flammable ?//

Is there any other sort of resin?
Loris, Jun 18 2019

       Well, there's non-flammable resin.
MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 18 2019

Unfortunately, yes. Some only smoulder; the worst ones are self-extinguishing, or won't burn at all without a powerful oxidiser.

Sort of dovetails with my campaign to shut the down those factories still making carbon paper, there is enough CO2 already.

Close down the greenhouse factories, too ...
8th of 7, Jun 18 2019

If a man farts in a greenhouse and there's no-one there, does it make a smell? It seems to me that that would be a far more interesting question for philosophers to explore.
MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 18 2019

       // there's no-one there //

... except the man who farted ?

Farts do not exist as an isolated phenomenon, a thing of itself only; although we are forced to admit that statement is effectively contradicted by the proven, and very unfortunate, existence of Piers Morgan.

//except the man who farted ? // Don't be silly. Do you think he's going to hang around?
MaxwellBuchanan, Jun 18 2019

As we pointed out - Piers Morgan. He's still hanging around, rather than the more useful state of being hanged*.

*no need for the bit about "... and may the Lord have mercy on your soul" as this is something he entirely lacks. It's said that "The Devil looks after his own ", but not in this case, as the Devil is renowned for collecting souls and Piers clearly has nothing to bargain with.
