Why don't mobile phones include an option (ie. you don't need to have this switched on if you don't want) that means that when someone rings, you hear their tone instead of your's?...

Oh God, no. This would be awful - mobile phones sound bad enough without not knowing what it was going to sound like next time it rings. Also, you'd never know whose phone was going off when you were in the boozer and everyone has their phone out. It'd be like,

"Is that you?" "No, I think it's you." "No, that's your ring tone." "Are you calling me?" "Do I even know you?" "Are you calling my pint a poof?"

       etc.

       No.

I'm with [saker] What would you want it for anyway?

You mean when someone calls you, you hear their ringer?
Or you hear the ringer of someone standing near you?

I think it's a great idea, especially if I could customize it by dialee (playing raspberries over and over for my in-laws, say). I'd also like to customize the ring tones people hear when they dial my phone (same thing).

But for some weird reason, I was thinking this would be an idea for a cell phone that would give you a suntan.

DrCurry, they have phones that allow you to specify different rings for different callers.
