Because I miss it.

I'm not certain where to categorize this, but I believe that corporation cube-dwellers need a show-and-tell day, to bring in projects from home for their coworkers to gawk at.

I had the privilege of initiating something like this at my last corporate employment, among the engineers.

I believe it turned into a regular quarterly lunchtime competition / show&tell. Extremely good idea! +

I don't want those fucking sons-of-bitches to know anymore about me than they already do.

wha? they already think I'm a weido!!
On the other hand, I do miss *show and tell*- so maybe we could have a party instead?

       I have problems with this:
(1) Where compulsory, S&T seems to promulgate, albeit implicitly, the clearly erroneous position that each person has something worthwhile to share with his or her peers. Where voluntary, S&T gives platform to the tediously self-absorbed or self-aggrandising (viz. those who have internalised the lessons of compulsory S&T).
(2) Like a goodly proportion of individuals in the services sector, I attend weekly videolinked conferences where (in my case) lawyers spend untold minutes appraising their reflexively indolent colleagues of some technical wizard- or bollock-ry or transactional whizzbangery, all in the name of "knowledge exchange". Adding to that burden by making me hear what Print Room Drone #3 has been doing to keep himself gently amused in his shed will push me - and thousands like me - into a seething frenzy of tutting and eye-rolling.

tl;dr version: what afinehowdoyoudo said, but with the direction reversed.

Yeeeessss... - I'm reminded of those 'ice-breaker' exercises that facilitators are keen to force groups of people who don't normally work together to do in the mistaken belief that this will break down all social barriers and norms between members of the group and fill everyone with a spirit of cooperation and camaraderie. For example "Write down one interesting thing about yourself on a piece of paper and then we'll see if we can guess which thing relates to each person" - which quickly reveals that many people don't have an interesting thing they can say about themselves.
hippo, Dec 07 2011

... or perhaps more charitably, that many people have interesting things to say about themselves but are precluded from doing so by their good manners, as the interesting things involve base or deviant acts which are best left undescribed.
calum, Dec 07 2011

Or that most people in the exercise consider the others dullards who wouldn't be interested by the interesting things they could say about themselves.

Or that most people have sufficient insight to realize that anything about oneself one considers interesting is, probably, not interesting to anybody else.

We could go on like this all day.
